Can anyone teach me how to do SEO for blogs?
went to do some research...dont quite understand though
congrats on ur blog!!!
Is your blog software wordpress?
wats software wordpress?
Do you use this blog software?
Anyway, before going on to SEO, has the blog URL been submitted to search engines?
no i use blogspot..does that ans ur qn?
no i din submit..
Hmm... Blogspot probably no need to submit, but I would still suggest to submit anyway.
To Google - http://www.google.com/addurl/
To Yahoo - http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit
If you have RSS feeds, you can use the "Submit Site Feed" from Yahoo.
Once done, will need to check some settings in Blogger.
1. Log in to Blogger.
2. Select Settings > Basic. Ensure that "Let search engines find your blog?" is set to Yes
3. Select Settings > Comments. Scroll down to Backlinks. Set it to Show.
4. Include the following to your blog, right under the <head> section:
<meta name="keywords" content="blog, Blogger, blogspot, test, testing" /> change the words "blog, Blogger, blogspot, test, testing" to something relevant to your blog
<meta name="description" content="Just testing" /> change the words "Just testing" to something relevant to your blog
<meta name="author" content="mayi" /> change the words "mayi" to your name
5. Title of your blog - think through it carefully. If it's too common, you are going to fight with a million and one blogs which has similar title. But don't be too cheeky either, users probably won't use such words to search.
6. Try to use labelling in your posts if possible. Though Blogspot labelling sucks for SEO.
7. Have a good URL structure. This requires quite a good bit of technical knowledge in structuring Blogspot's URL.
8. Update your blog regularly. Search engines don't like to crawl pages that are not updated regularly. If it's updated regularly, it will prompt the robots to crawl more regularly, so there's a chance your blog will appear in search engine results.

i have submitted on google and yahoo..
however how i know if they approved?
on yahoo i still cant search...yields zero results when i use the title of my blog
on google, i use the title of my blog, i can search...
okie, for no 4 - i dont delete anything right? just add under the head right?
can the keywords and description content be the same things? any limits to the words or the more the better?
no 6 - i label all of them
no 7 - i dunno how to restructure them
no 8 - update meaning new posts? or even just do editing is considered update?
others:
how is wordpress related to blog?
the only way to up the search engine is to do more updates? other than paying money..
i've read that adding meta tags is no longer that effective as b4 as SE tends to ignore that now..issit true?
thanks mayi =)
hi alfagal,
it can take months for the seach engines to process your request, unless it is a paid listing.
if you want to speed up the search engine listing, u can build links from other blogs/websites to your blog. When any search engine crawls the information on the other websites, it will find your blog.

4 - Yup, that's right.
7 - Hmm... think I saw some posting on structuring Blogspot's URLs, have to dig it up. Not sure if it applies now. You are using new Blogspot's templates or old ones? Old ones, probably not much one can do to it. New one, probably can.
8 - New posts would be effective, updating will take some time for the spider to catch the changes.
Meta tags are no longer as effective as the past, however, they still serve some purpose, not totally without use. Reason why they are no longer as effective is people abuse it, leading to search engines to totally ignoring it or giving it lower consideration.
Having more relevant content and relevant title is of utmost importance, because when the search results are displayed, these are the two main things that's being displayed. That's why people tend to optimize these 2 most.

guess will need to be abit more patient now..
meanwhile will think of other places to drive traffic in...
any good site for free adverts?
Don't know of free adverts... but if you visit other blogs and comments, and leave your URL there, it's some form of free advertising.
Just don't spam too much though.

ty!
I used a wordpress blog to create a shopping cart and submitted the site to google.com thereafter, the site is called winter in venice. Apparently it went up to number 1 last week and stayed there for a few days as it used to in its former days prior to the revamp.
However just a few days ago it suddenly got delisted totally from google and the page rank given was 0. You could not even find the site anywhere on google.com at all. This is seriously puzzling. No black hat tactics were used on the site.
Ouch! Could anyone take a look and see if you might spot something that might be wrong with the site? Thanks :)
