if i install ad-aware antivirus, malwarebytes' anti-malware and zone alarm, will my system slow down or crash or two/all the softwares i install clash with one another ?
If your com specs aren't really good, they will slow down your PC, but they shouldn't crash. I've got Symantec Antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot Search&Destroy on my laptop and they haven't crashed or conflicted with each other.
You are installing 1 Antivirus, 1 Anti-Malware and 1 firewall right? As long as its not 2 antivirus, etc. , it should be fine.
ya, 1 antivirus, 1 anti malware and 1 firewall
thanks
No guarantees, but it should work OK.
Bear in mind though, if you have more than one real-time protection turned on, it may cause problems. If you start experiencing problems, turn off the real-time protection of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware off.
Firewall is not really needed if you are using Vista and have a router. Most routers today offer a decent protection. But if you want more control, you can install a firewall.
Slightly off topic.
Mayi, I want to remove my windows service pack 3.
If I uninstall, will it affect any of my windows dunctions?
Not that I know of. Maybe just become slightly slower.

It is precisely that I believe the windows xp service pack 3 is slowing down my computer that I want to uninstall it.
May have something to do with IE upgrades in the service pack that comes with it?
Or u have any suggestions regarding the service pack 3 that can maybe speed up my lappie?

IE upgrades? I installed SP3 without upgrading IE...
Your lappie may need some maintenance... unnecessary services can be disabled, and some cleanup and defrag are some general maintenance steps.
In what way is your lappie slow? Browsing? Starting up?
i use NOD32 and a firewall done --

I already defraged it a few days ago. And ran spybot to check if there are any viruses or spyware. Also disabled my Norton AV.
1) Starting up takes like 5 mins from turning it on to connecting to the wireless internet server.
2) Once logged on, I open my firefox with 4 tabs - it takes at least 2-3 minutes before all 4 pages are loaded properly. One of the tabs is my yahoo email - bloody takes minutes to load - could it be this new chat feature they added to yahoo mail?
So in all, I take approximately 10 minutes to turn on my lappie and get my programs running.

I also suspect I have a lot of unnecessary services running in the background but do not want to stop or delete them unnecesarily in case, i delete of some important functions and totlally destroy my lappie.
Any common ones that can be disabled on my windows task manager without afecting normal operations?
1. About the same as me... it will be faster if you use wired connections. Mine takes 2 mins if using wired connections.
2. Yes, the new Yahoo chat feature can affect the browser. Can't help it. You can slightly improve that by signing out of the chat permanently.
And using Yahoo classic mail interface helps.
But taking 10 minutes is quite long...
Any Norton AV that's not from this year onwards is very slow. Suggest that you remove it and install another one that doesn't take up much resources, such as AntiVir.

My norton is 2003. Came together with my lappie when I bought it then. You think it is ok for me to just delete off the whole program?
I don't have an updated subscription for it anyway so other than system upgrades, the virus library is probably 2003 stuff. But I just thought can keep it even with the outdated library - better something than nothing in case i want to run any virus checks.
Already using classic format for yahoo mail.

To remove Norton, use Norton removal tool - http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Outdated is as good as having none. Nowadays virus is very different from 2003 viruses... where they used to be easy to clean, nowadays, one wrong step made you can reformat your PC.
Would be better to get an updated one better than none.

Ok, will remove it then.
Can't I just do a Add/Delete program for the Norton?
u can try and see what happens
I use just NOD32 for the system I need most robust, and AVG free version for the least important ones. Then I install Malwarebytes on a demand basis, but I don't run it unless I feel I need to.
NOD32 covers 98% of it, but somehow it still misses out the 2% that Malwarebytes takes care of.
