hi guys interested to build a gaming pc with my old computer but i dunno if i changed my hard disk should i change my motherboard as well???=) my pc has a hard disk space of 80 gb n is running on a celeron D.=) need some good tips n advice!!!=)thx
Its a celeron, you can't get sh|t outta that, not even warcraft 3.
Huh? Are you for real?
celeron is not for gaming
Celeron D? HAHAHAHAHA
Okay, my old com was a Celeron D 320, 2.40GHz. 7 years old and STILL running. I put in a graphics card and can play games lah, NFS Underground, Underground 2, Unreal Tournament 2004, UT3 surprise surprise also can. Who says cannot game? Actually, using the integrated graphics at first also not bad, can play Underground. I suggest you buy new Graphics card if you REALLY want to keep the computer, otherwise just get a new computer, cuz that thing is ANCIENT (Okay, not as ancient as my Athlon 300 XD)

What they meant are the new high graphical games that require better minimum specs...
k so if i dun wan keep my pc n intend to change the procesor which means i oso hav to change the motherboard rite??? if yes tat will cost around how much???thx!
To get a decent gaming pc(able to play at least L4D at max graphic), a budget of around $1000 is needed
u can refer to the buyer's guide in HWZ: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=1093205

A gaming PC - prepare at least $350 for just the motherboard + processor.
hey i oso wanna ask intel or amd processors better??? n is nvidia graphics card good???=)
sorry i maybe to noob ask alot question!!!haha
thx anyway
hey Raraken. so it is possible for me to keep the computer rite. however if i change the hard disk to 250 gb can the motherboard take it?
Your motherboard can take it provided you buy the right hard disk. If your motherboard doesn't support SATA hard disk and you buy a SATA hard disk, then it's a bit pointless.
Currently, Intel processors are better. So are nVidia graphics card.
Budget?
at least core 2 duo for now, or if u want can wait for the p55 with the core i5
i will say get the i5 or i7, the ones with the hyper threading tech.
actually intel and amd both have good processor that can perform, i am not so interested in amd now becos i find the way they name their motherboard confusing. but i still support intel maybe because of influence
for gaming pc also need to get a true power powersupply(PSU), a 450w true/real/pure power psu is diff from a standard rated power psu.
mobo just get a normal one with 6 or more sata if u are running a few hdd. also look at the mobo before buying, some are badly designed that the sata potrs are covered by the graphics card, or the pci express slots are so close to each other that u can only run single slot cards in crossfire. p45s are quite popular now for mainstream systems. x58s are for the gaming section
graphics card can look for those with nonref. cooling, esp if u L> high performance cards
sometimes shop will tell u to crossfire, like buying 2 4770 and cf, but u need to get a mobo which can have their pci express slot running both x16 when on crossfire, if not both running @ x8 might hinder performance, but that means the mobo will be ex
graphics card these few months like nothing outta the ordinary, i tink ati still more bang for the buck
rams get the normal ddr2-800 @ 6-6-6-18 or ddr2-800 @ 5-5-5-12 will do, unless u are going to squeeze out all the performance, go for those ddr2-1066. in short, get the ram with fast core clock and low timing
dvd drive just get those with writer , 30-40 dollar if i not wrong
too lazy to retype everything, im off to edmw

Possible. What is your mobo? That old com I was using had 2 SATA ports, and if you don't have SATA ports, well, get a new com liao, cos IDE drives are considerably more expensive than SATA HDD.
If you really need a new com, I say go for AMD+ATi solution. AMD CPUs are cheap right now, and some have that bang for the buck reputation. ATi right now owns nVidia in terms of price/performance ratio, but pure power goes to nVidia. But if you got the cash, buy Intel instead, cos they run cooler and tend to be faster.
how to check how many sata ports i have??? n wads is mobo??? n yes my com support sata. i would oso lyk to ask is pentium d better thn celeron d??? thx guys

Basically... change everything except the cpu case....

Pentium D is indeed better than the Celeron D, but that is 2 different classes of CPUs all together. the Celeron line is entry level, low cost, low performance chips. The Pentium D was a midrange-high end chip when it was released. I tell you, might as well get new com liao. Pentium D where to find now?
Mobo = Motherboard, the square/rectangular thing where your CPU, HDD and everything connects into.
How to check how many SATA ports:
Look for this type of connector
Or something like that, anyway.
k i dun wana get a new ccomputer as it is normally more then 1k n my budgetis oly less than 1k . dunno if it is enough??? n one more ting should i get the parts from sls without gettin conned? if yes which shop is recomended? thx u all
A new com can cost less than 1k. Just look at some bundles or deals offered by Fuwell, Bell Systems, Best Prices etc. Just have a look at their lists and decide for yourself.
