Maybe I can use that computer to type out my resume and than save in thumbdrive and email it out using a new pc that does not have microsoft office?

Somemore i don't know how to use the latest version of Microsoft Office 2007..I only know how to use Microsoft Office 2003 which is very different from Microsoft Office 2007..

Yes, now all standard is dual-core, unless is ultra-budget laptop, ultra-thin laptop or netbook.
Mine is an Acer system, very happy with it :) So my recommendation is to go for the Emachines by Acer laptop. Dell laptops overheat too much, or at least that's what my friends laptops seem to do all the time.

And Open Office is easy to use, just save as Microsoft Word 97-2003 (.doc) when you save the file.

But I saw some normal labtop costing about $900 is use "Intel Pentium". Is this better or lousier than dual core? -

The Intel Pentium is a single-core CPU, while the Pentium Dual Core, is, well, Dual core. The laptop you are talking about probably has the Pentium Dual Core, since the only laptop I can think of that uses the Pentium is one of the Acer Timelines.
If you look for the laptop, the label should say Pentium Dual Core T4200 (The current generation PDC CPUs) and not anything else.

And she have a very 'smart' son who annouces to the world online what she doesWoweeeee. Seriously, she should just have stuck to the internet.
Microsoft Office 2007 is the same as 2003, just that the layout is different. Mess around for a while and you'll get the hang of it

You want to go and make police report too?

I am also thinking of getting a new com but not very good about IT stuffs too so asking for opinion..

Unknown brand, condition etc., so watch out. It would still be better to get the $999 laptops. Brand-new, full warranty, faster CPU etc., but that's just my opinion.

I am using Pentium 4 CPU and I find it very slow. Maybe is because computer old already use for many years.
If I buy the intel pentium or atom processor will it be faster than my current pentium 4?
