Hi hi
Seeking expert opinion and advice.
Got the starhub guy to come down to my unit to ''upgrade'' my router and modem plus the setting-up of cable tv. He had inadvertently unplugged my cable modem and router while my PC was still power on and downloading a particular website. As soon as that action was done, the PC went into ''reboot'' mode and keeps rebooting itself....but to no avail, ie Windows XP could not start and everytime, it reboots, it goes back to the launch screen.
The PC is now as good as dead. Was told to go get a copy of the O/S to reboot since I do not have a recovery disk and O/S disk.
Can I get Windows vista to reboot the PC that is running on Windows XP?
Not only that, noted that the bandwith drops fm 8mps to 4.2/4.3/7.6/9.4/3.9 irregularly on my laptop (since the PC is dead). Certain websites downloading come to a drag and refreshing takes a long time if not forever causing the system to ''hang''. Did a series of tests with direct connection to modem and called up starhub technical assistance hotline. Seems direct or wireless, the bandwith does not improve....it will lag seriously while playing games.
Now pending for their ''assessment''.
Anyone ever had the same issues as above?
As if the above is not bad enough, microsoft outlook could not launched properly. Even going thru' with the technical guy, the problem still could not be resolved.
Got the application uninstalled and re-installed but the problem persists.
Outlook keeps telling me ''error in popgmail.com.sg'' when the settings were all set correctly. And the ''empty deletion box' could not be performed as it says ''error in registry and installation''. Even re-installation could not resolved that.
Seeking anyone who is able to provide technical assistance offsite and or on-site.
Thnks
did u try safe mode for your pc?
hi hi
it doesnt work.
Most probably the hardware of your computer is not dead
However windows xp might be corrupted. You can try to repair windows by borrowing the same version of windows xp and do a repair after booting from CD
You cannot use windows vista to reboot the system because xp and vista are 2 different thing. You can only do a clean reformat if you want to install vista
What you can do will be to take out the harddisk from the computer, and plug it into a working computer to retrieve the data.
If i were you, i will just do an xp repair, if all else fails, you can only reformat
ALso take note if does your computer keep beeping and not starting?
Starhub is cable connection, which means it is shared with the area, it is very hard to reach 8mbps especially when everyone in your block is using starhub at the same time. (This is also why starhub tend to lag during peak hours, and when there are little ppl using it is very fast)
I duno how to use outlook

This action, by itself, shouldn't cause any problems to the PC, except your internet connections. Your router and modem may spoil due to this action, but not your PC.
What are you downloading when he unplugged? How big is the file?
popgmail.com.sg
This server doesn't appear to exist. Please double check.
hi hi
Thanks for the replies......
Guess i will hv to obtain a copy of the windows xp juz to repair the pc.....shucks....
I was downloading a game application....farmtown via facebook.....when the cable guy unplugged the router and modem.....
How big is this file?
the screen was not moving...guess it muz be big........
anyhow....tonite going funan to buy the windows xp...and see whether it is gonna worth the money to salvage the pc....sigh.....
if i were you, i will not buy, borrow a copy from a friend then do a repair
if u are using windows xp pro, you must use windows xp pro disc, if u are using windows xp home, you need to use the home disc.
buying is not worth it, i think it cost 100++
shucks.....thnks for reminding me......otherwise i will end up buying the wrong edition......i believe mine is the oem? version that is preloaded by dell.........so, i need to buy the oem? version?
those whom i knew......also got their machines preloaded with the o/s....most dun hv the disk............while others are the vista version.....
suay lah......a lesson learnt....
I'm half suspecting he got a virus/malware instead of the comp being screwed by the unplugging. As mentioned, upluging the internet connection will not do these things to the computer.
If I'm not wrong most pre-loaded computers should also come with recovery disks? Not the oem or windows disk though.
XP pro or home?
i got both. Dell original CD
you wanna?
hi hisoka
a colleague of mine also suspect virus but cant be so coincidental....''farmtown'' is an application within facebook that is widely played by many so, it shd be safe.........anyhow, the recovery disk provided by dell if that is the recovery disk dun seem to work as i hv tried many times....by selecting rebooting fm disk......nothing happens, my pc continue to reboot and shutdown and reboot......
