Hi,
I am looking for a web host that can serve me better. Currently using a US based one which is crap...What are the popular ones? Should I use a SG based one? I use e commerce applications like shopping carts btw..
A friend of mine suggested using Google's professional email..anyone have experience in it? Thought it would be more robust tho i dont really like their "labels" concept
Thanks for your help
Cheers
I dont know about popular email, but I think for webhosting, you can try Oryon Networks.
Local web server located in Singapore and provides pretty good customer service and most importantly good uptime.
If you want to compare more, you can try going to SG Webhostingtalk forum for more recommendations, but note that some hosts there that offer good prices are from US and not SG.
webvisions?
Kindly give more information.
1. What type of e-commerce app? You don't have to tell us the e-commerce app name, but I need to its specifications. Is it written in PHP? Uses mySQL? Etc?
2. I assume HTTPS is needed since it's an e-commerce app. So a webhost must definitely have HTTPS. Yes? No?
3. Email. Please let us know your needs.
4. Bandwidth. How much do you use every month?
5. Type of customers. Are they mostly local or from all over the world? That would help you to judge whether you want a local webhost or a server that's located elsewhere.
thanks all for the replies...

new to this but i know it uses php and needs a mySQL database. a local hosting company says needs LINUX platform only but my current US host is using Windows platform

yes. for credit card payments i need HTTPS?
3. Email. Please let us know your needs.
no specific needs, just something reliable. and need to send attachments of maybe 10mb
my current host email client is a total fre*kin disaster. could not stay logged on the Horde email for more than 15 seconds. host insisted nothing wrong. sent screen shots and even video to show the login loop back but still not solved. they switched me to Squirrel email but that cant send attachements greater than 2mb. again they say they see no prob on their end so basically tell me life sucks for me. tried turning off firewall in my modem, remove firewall in computer, tried using other pc in another location using different network still same problem. so enuf is enuf
btw i use IX Host . not to flame them but if anyone also uses them pls share with me if u have the same problems as i do
4. Bandwidth. How much do you use every month?
not sure yet. but wont be super heavy

probably global customers..is local webhost better in this case?
thanks! :)
Well, dependings on what your shopping cart is made of... cos some hosting site do not support certain applications.
Actually, I'm running a webhost and I've just PM'd you :)

Actually, PHP and mySQL doesn't need Linux specifically, but a Linux platform is preferable. The reason why Linux is preferred is because a lot of guides out there assumes you use Linux.

That's rather huge. I haven't heard of many email hosts that allows that. You can try Yahoo or Hotmail (paid version). They allow you to send attachments greater than 10MB.

It's a problem with Singapore's internet. Nothing wrong with the host. I'm not too sure what causes that, but I suspect it could be the compulsory proxy that Singapore uses and the dynamic IP addresses that caused the problem.
Horde email always give problems to Singapore users unless you have a static IP address. That you have to request from your ISP.

Does your webhost allow you to see the server's logs? If so, you can tell where your customers are from, based on their IP addresses. If most are local, you can consider a local webhost.
For a non-local webhost, you can consider Bluehost - http://www.bluehost.com/
if you like sgforums
you can try www.ling.sg

i called my isp and they said they cant change the ip from dynamic to static..they say all isp use dynamic ip address.. is there a webclient i can use? my hosting company installed Squirrel email but its very basic. worse than hotmail 10 yrs ago....
US web hosting is not crab. But is fairly congested from sg to US.
It will be more wise to use sg web hosting.
Just note that the price cannot compare with US price.
