i stongly recommend 16 inch to 18 inch. cos u will not regret it. But consider the weight also..
I also never seen any 17 inch get very hot, Becuase the companies see 17 inch also higher model and will have more quality control in them.
and 17 inches are sometimes sold lower or same price as 12.1 inch or 14.1 inch.

Originally posted by Raraken:Which 17-incher you using? Seriously, you don't know my experience with using huge-ass laptops. I have used many of them (Projects, gaming, etc.), most of them 18-inchers. Battery life was terrible, even with a 12 cell bettery. That was with the entry-level GPU, standard dual-core, HD screen. My hands were sort of struggling to carry it, which was weird, since I can carry a desktop very easily. Also your second point: Best not to show off. I saw one person use a 16-inch Compaq, he was getting stares - from the wrong crowd. You might be getting the wrong eyes, remember that. The flashier it is, the more unwanted attraction you are gonna get.
We recommend 14-inch, because they are a hybrid. Not so small, yet small.Plus, they are damn cheap.Remember, students, no matter in Sec School, JC, Poly or Uni, they don't have a huge budget. They don't have much strength to lug the laptop day in, day out. Must consider everything also.
according to my expereince 18 inch to too big, but 17 inch is still all rite. 16 inch is the best match for TS.
I own a 17 inch HP and in the process of getting another for my cousin. My 17 inch is not heavy, land i said its lighter than some 14.1 inch...Most importantly does not matter which brand but u have to test the weight first before buying, Not all 17 nch are heavvy, it depends ont he company, how much effort they put into making it user friendly..

Well, I went around, and saw those 16-inchers, heavier than my 14-incher, and less powerful, so I'll stick to 14-inchers.
@lianamaster: You can also go for a 15.4' laptop. Most are quite light, and are powerful enough for the occaisional game.
I got a 17 inch to watch DVD movies and Live TV. Because to travel around to stay in my house, my cousin's and to Uni, I am impressed with my 17 inch glossy display as it display pictures very clear and well. My res is 1680X1080 .
now its hard to go back to small screen like 14.1 or 15.4 incher.

Many thanks for the feedback guys....
But hor... if I buy 16" upwards, wouldn't the laptop be bulky? People will only 'upgrade' the screen size each time they buy a new computer...lol...they wouldn't downsize....
I fear next time I buy it will be 17", 18" and so on...lol....
Nonetheless, I will take that into consideration....
Is it possible to get a 16" for around $1500?

yes possible depend on the specs....u cannot upgrade a laptop screen size, so consider carefully...if u do heavy work like graphics (photoshop and 3D) and word documents all the time on the move for long hours , it will be wiser to get 16 - 18 inch. 16 inch is the ideal. it will give more desktop space to work with multiple open windows.
Most importantly it will be easier on eyes.

i seen 16 -17 inch acer and HP laptops for 1600+ @ SLS
Last time big screens laptops so popular, then from big screen downgrade to small screen, now from small screen upgrade to big screen again...hahahaha! song bo?
Yea.. our eyes will still stay the same size no matter how big the screen is...
I feel there's no point spoiling our delicate organs to accomodate that moment of enjoyment.
But anyway, my main usage will be just surf web and type reports using basic applications in MS Office. No much programming, serious gaming or 3D modelling and stuff...

i dont know but bigger laptops may have lesser heat issues, and the smaller ones will take take more effort to make them running cool. I always did hear probs with 14 inch laptops heat dissipation. The internals concentrates a great deal of heat into a small space small notebooks going to have a lot of problems when it come to this.
One of the reasons why those atom small ultra portable or netbook will not do high speed MHZ
I had a fujisu laptop once very nice but speaker sux like hell. other than tt very good
I think waiting for windows 7 to be released will be better than getting a vista cause i now using vista got a lot of pop up saying this program need admin damn troublesome.
