if i want to change laptop mainboard to a higher spec one, will there by any prblem with the casing overheat?
or other problems like bios not recognising laptop screen ect?
Don;t think so. best to ask around first. About the overheating its nothing. Just to the fact on what your doing most? Like play game ect...
i just need one with nvidia, now i using intel x1300. does not overheat...
Just use cooler lorzz
Changing mainboard not as simple as you say. Cooling, must be sufficient. Space, must have. Later wanna put new GPU, then no space, how? Actually, you want to upgrade mainboard, might as well get new laptop nia. Difficult, expensive, and not always got space. WHats your laptop? Chances are, since it has integrated Graphics, there is no PCI-E interface or slot for GPU.
Raraken, Any website to recommend laptops gfx card. Singapore want.

1st thing, your laptop need the proper slot: MXM slot. Then, have the different form factors: Type I, Type II, Type III and HE. Bigger cards wont work in smaller slots, but some smaller cards will work in bigger slots.
2nd issue: Cooling: You know about this, anyway
Laptop GPU very hard to find in SG. Never saw before, actually. If you want, you need paralell import from overseas distributor. Google MXM-Upgrade. They have 3/4 models on sale, from 8400M GT, 8600M GT GDDR2, 8600GT GDDR3 and ATI Radeon HD3650
So how about a gaming laptop @ sim lim? How much money is needed to build a quite powerful gaming laptop?

u can custom build from spare parts...but not reliable. Some people ask others to do it for them, and then the laptop melt becuase of heat. Unless u are expert u can do it yrself by those DIY guides in google.
or u go to buy online from website where u can customise before buying.
Yeh but asking them to fix for me? i'm super lazy.

It depends on how much power you need. Check around.
PS> I'm going to SLS/Funan prolly tomorrow. I can go check.
If you did check for me ty.
huh? u all go and check wat?
Ask him to check for me a gaming labtop.
can check price on replace laptop mainboard for me can?

bro, i recommend Asus...
get 17 inch...
but let me warn u the best gaming laptop cannot match the desktop PC gaming.
3d games like crysis on laptop will not perform as well as on a desktop with the same specs..
gaming laptop is ideal for those RPG, strategy or games like diablo, wow ect.
have u checked for me?
I went to Funan:
Saw this Acer 18-incher, Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz, 1066MHz FSB
Full HD 1080p 18-inch Display
4GB DDR3 RAM
Dual 500GB HDDs in RAID 0
Mobility Radeon HD4670 512 MB (Mainstream GPU) (Sort of like 9600GT for laptops)
3k+, but under 3.5k, IIRC
Then got this Gateway FX laptop, under 3k
2.4GHz P8600
4GB DDR3
17-inch screen (Resolution unknown)
1GB GeForce 9800M GT(X/S)
@Nasi lemak: RPG, strategy games can play with integrated graphics lei. Crysis is a bad example to compare desktops and laptops. Most desktops will suffer and cry when you try play Crysis on them.
Some laptops have been released the the mother of all mobile GPUs, GTX 280M in SLI. Quad-core, 4GB DDR3, multiple SSDs in RAID 0. I saw this laptop online, but for US customers only.
Also, what 17-incher you using? I can try see if you can upgrade or not, or if your lappie lost cause liao.

I am not into gaming laptop
Few reasons why
1) most gaming laptops may have heat issues which will be obvious after some point of time
2) How long can a GFX card in it last till its outdated
3) GFX card spoilt, u are a fcked, cause it will cost a lot of money to replace them , this actually happened before in large number of cases using Nvidia mobile GPU and Nvidia faced a class lawsuit)
4) Costly
5) Its not worth buying a laptop just to play latest games like crysis
6) battery techology still havent catch up with power requirement for laptop gaming
my solution is :
Get a ps3 or xbox 360 which will last u a few years, has great games
my laptop specs
HP Pavilion 17" wide screen glossy
Core 2 processor 2.0GHz;
2GB RAM,
500GB HDD,
Intel X 1300
good enough to play diablo
But i want to play starcraft 2 in the near future.
according tot he internet, its using P965 mainboard, and can be upgraded to quad core.
Requirement estimates based on what we know
The graphics engine will be updated and the units look quite a bit more detailed than in War3.
Shadows are more detailed than in Warcraft 3, and are calculated from a single fixed point, like in AOE 3, but with higher resolution shadow maps.
Havok physics will be used.
The requirements for Age of Empires (AOE) are:
Windows XP, 1.4 GHz Processor, 256 MB RAM, 64 MB video card capable of Hardware TnL.
Based on the similarities of the techniques used in Starcraft 2 and Age of Empires and considering differences like physics based detailed character movements (the protoss walkers for example) and the added graphics detail in Starcraft 2, here's the guesstimate:
Minimum System Requirements for Starcraft 2
Processor: 1.4 Ghz Processor
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics card: 128 MB RAM video card capable of Hardware TnL. DX10 is not required, but will be supported by SC2 and Blizzard are considering adding DX10 specific effects.
Pixel Shader 2.0 (Officially Confirmed)

Chipset can support, mine also. PM45 chipset. Quad-core support: Yes. Power supply/Thermal design: Depends
Considering you integrated GPU, the cooling system in yours is probably not as powerful as those in entertainment-class laptops.
Starcraft 2 will definitely run on your X3100.
As for why you aren't into Gaming Laptops, I can see why, but my laptop has decent specs and it never gets hot, even if I play CPU/GPU intensive games which go at like 100% load.
My laptop:
Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz
4GB DDR3
320GB HDD
14' LED screen (1366x768)
GeForce G105M
Battery life: At least 3 hours on a 6-cell, reaching 4.5hrs at maximum.
The only thing that ever gets hot is the HDD, and even then, its not that hot.
Even the mobile Core 2 Quads (Q9000) doesn't get that hot, and my laptop can actually support one (Both Power, Thermal and chipset) The advances in technology are astounding. You will be surprised at what Intel/AMD are creating.
Nvidia is quite reliable; The only problems they faced were with the 8400M/8600M series GPU, and those are seriously outdated, so the new laptops are alot better, IMO, considering my friend's laptop gets hot enough to cook nasi lemak/fried chicken/roti prata/some persons balls/whatever.
