Woah... sure you wanna xfire HD4850?? They have the weird ability to overheat on non-stock cooler... even if it's a i7 mobo
Yep, I'm sure. That's why I suggested a HAF 932 as well. That thing has monster Air Flow capabilities. HD4850s are damn powerful. Its just a HD4870, but underclocked.
Plus, I see no relation between Overheating cards and the X58 chipset.
Water cooling =D
If give me $2k will get the following:
Based on bell system's pricing:
Gigabyte GA-EP45-ud3 + Q9550 = $639
Cooler Master V8 = $39
Corsair xm2 800mhz ram 4gb = $95
Sapphire HD4890 gpu =$492
Seagate 1TB HDD w 32mb cache = $155
Corsair TX 750w power supply = $229
LG DVD writer = $37
__________________________________
Total cost for parts w/o casing $1686
Casing:
CoolerMaster HAF932 should be able to get around $200 if look around
CoolerMater Sniper Storm(im using) SRP is $245 if i remember correctly
CoolerMaster Storm(quite nice also) should be $165
If using the HAF932 should be around $1886 for the system
If i am buying, the other leftover will go to a normal LCD
Wow. Let me try an AMD set-up, in case you're like one of those AMD fan boys.
Okay,
Based on Bell Systems Pricing (Like some kind of standard around here)
AMD Phenom II 955 AM3 + MSI 790FX-GD70 (Read some nice reviews out there) - $719
4GB Kingston DDR3 1333MHz - $106
Western Digital Caviar Green Power 1TB/32MB Cache -$155
OR
Seagate 1TB/32MB Cache - $155
I had a Seagate 500GB HDD fail after 4 months, so I gave 2 choices. Same price, cap, cache so, up to you
EITHER: MPT's 4890 or the HD4850 CFX . Both are around the same price,
Sapphire HD4890 Factory OC - $429 1638
OR
2x ASUS HD4850 512MB Non-Ref cooler - $249 x2
Corsair TX750W - $229
Total W/O Casing - $1638 (HD4890) or $1707 (HD4850 CFX)
I tested some temps with ATi cards, they do tend to run hot, especially the 4890/4870 and any set-up with 2 cards next to each other. Casing wise, look at MPT's suggestion. I don't want to add more, in case later you don't know what to get.

If ur planning to use 2 asus HD4850 then it's more obvious... that non-stock cooler that comes with it takes up close to 2 slots so the intake is up the backside of the next xfire card... So if there's not enough space it'll snuff itself out...
But it would be interesting to see how it will work with the HAF 932... Eitherways it could be noisy... the asus fan makes a weird (and quite audible) whining sound at around 70% speed...
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 & Gigabyte EP45-UD3R ~ $566
or AMD Phenom II X4 940 & DFI LANParty DK 790FXB M2RSH ~ $560
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 & Gigabyte EP45-UD3R ~ $489
Corsair XMS2 DHX PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL4 4GB (2X2GB) ~ $99
Palit GTX260 Sonic ~ $329 or Palit HD4870 1GB Sonic ~ $329
Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB ~ $130
Samsung SATA 22X DVD Rewriter ~ $31
Corsair HX520W PSU ~ $146
Cooler Master CM690 ~ $129
this rig cost round $1.5k to $1.6k
NO water cooling?

when working in simlim my shop have sell but not many people ask
So does your shop still sells?
Problem is, many people aren't familiar with WC. Most stick with good air-cooling, cause do wrongly later have coolant all over your mobo.

It will work quite well with a HAF932, depending on the fan set-up. The HD4850s don't have to be from ASUS, but I feel having a non-ref cooler is much better. The single-slot solution was a little bit hot, in my opinion.

Once was building a high end system with water cooling. THe cutomer bought the gigabyte 3d mercury casing
The water cooling system is the 3d galaxy from gigabyte. The package includes 2 bottles of coolant, and one waterblock for graphics card.
When installing, we pour for a few secs, then turn it on. The reason is that the system will not turn on until the water cooling system detects that the reserviour is 80 percent full or sth liddat. It will keep beeping and beeping until the mininum water level is reached.
After that need to check for leaks, very time consuming as the customer also bought the saphire atomic water cooled 4870x2. the pipes also must put properly, cannot bend etc
i also want to build a computer to play games, and also get one partition to play with fedora OS..
but i'm not sure what specs i should concentrate on, and the budget. really appreciate some help..
i already hv monitor and speakers. so only need to build the desktop
