....motherboard is dead...since last friday. Initially i dunno what the problem is except for
when i tried to on my laptop it wun respond(dunno it's unable to boot or smth like that).
and i went down to a shop in sim lim square who quote me 200 for repair of motherboard
or 350 for replacement, by then i was told that my motherboard is dead. i choose the
former and i waited for one week till today i went down only to be told that motherboard
can't be repaired nor they have the exact motherboard model. then i went to another shop
to repair , i was given the same quote and also unfortunately at the end of the day they
said of the same thing. the second shop i went to say that the motherboard port or wiring
spoilt. so what is the next step i should do next?
go get a new laptop. Nowadays, laptops are so cheap. Less than $1,000 you can get already.
no other solutions?
no other solutions? if bo pian ..i was thinking abt buying ibm thinkpad if situation really unsalvagable...is it good laptop?
not worth to pay a few hundreds for motherboard. might as well get new laptop. now laptops cheap.
thinkpad IBM? The one I used at work very heavy.
i have seen several IBM lappies at the first shop i mention...quite light what...but overall is IBM lappies good run for $$$?

Not too sure for home use. good for office use. That time when I was going round collecting info before I bought my PC, I was told that IBM thinkpad is good for business use. But, I don't know what is the difference. to me there is no difference.
that shop that i mention just now sells it ard 500 plus...leh what u think?

Laptop IBM Thinkpad for $500? Is it light? Personally, i kind of like IBM Thinkpad. Is it with warranty? Any freebies? YOU must also take the configuration into account.

ARe you happy with what the laptop offer? How light? Aren't u going to consider other brands before you make decision? other brands, Apple, Vio
sony vios r high end lappie but too exp for me liao...apple i nv used that b4 so unsure...so r u recommending me these 2 brands? where is the place u recommend to buy lappie?

No, just name a couple of brands for your consideration, not recommending. I heard good comments about Apple. IBM Thinkpad is reliable.
my needs are simple able to surf net watch videos online swee swee and able to play PC games(not those online games like dota) that's enough already....what u think of HP personally..for me now i think i would shun HP liao..since 1 year into it ..KIA liao..

sony vaio are not necessarily high end.
some vaios demand a sky high price while having specifications akin to that of an IBM business laptop.
run-of-the-mill 2gb ram, a lousy GMA945 graphics acclelerator, 160gb hard drive, pentium dual-core. and all this, for nearly 3k.

HP for computers is not a good choice. Had prob using HP computers. When I was on project working in HP, even the HP staff said HP computers no good and we were in the HP computer division.

there are many kinds of pc games on the market. some of them are rather resource intensive and require lots of power, while others dont. i recommend that you check out a laptop with a discrete graphics solution, which means a laptop with graphics by nvidia or ati.
although this might raise the price of your purchase, it is a valuable option as in future, you may start to play more graphic demanding games and then the discrete graphcs option comes in useful. as for processor, go for laptops with core2duo cpu and at least 2gb of ram.

certain things spoil doesen't mean that the brand is no good.
maybe it's due to reliability issues in some HP computers you people used that cause you guys to be wary of the reliability of HP machines, but i've been using HP machines often, and have never come across a single problem.
my HP m7390d desktop pc has been running fine since it was bought 2 years ago, with only minor upgrades, adding of RAM, adding of cooling fans and ducts and a new graphics card.
my HP dv2713tx has had its motherboard replaced once, due to the discrete graphics chipset on it overheating and burning out, but that was because i was ignorantly performing 3d modelling on it, which i know is not a good thing to do on a laptop, no matter how much 'firepower' it has.
my desktop has been used in excess of 3000 hours now, and my laptop in excess of 2000 hours.

hard to get. really hard. so far i don't know of a single vaio below 1k.
there might be some, but chances are really slim.
as i said, sony is more of a boutique brand, going by brand power. a bit like bose, which explains why the ubitiquously expensive sony vaio laptops are just like the equally ubitiquously expensive bose speaker systems that don't really sound THAT great so as to warrant such a price.
