Notebook Battery

Hi.. I have a notebook that i use for my poly education related stuf and for personal notebook at home. Usually, I'll charge my notebook and use it at the same time at home.
My cousin once told me, that I should not use my notebook and charging it at the same time as it'll reduce the lifespan / spoil the battery easily. Instead, he told me that I should removet the battery then connect my notebook to the power point straight if I want to use it for long period (in this case, the notebook will act sth like desktop)
Is it true? Any side effect if I keep doing it? Or should I just charge and use it at the same time like a lot of people do? Hope that my question is clear enough... thxx

i always charge with my battery,just in case my mum accidentally turn off the switch.haha.

I cannot determine IF that is really the cause.(charging it & using @ same time).BUT my sony laptop i also use it that way, in room jus plug in & use.. if i remove the AC power source.. the battery which is 100% charge can MAX can last 27mins...
On the otherhand, father's lonovo laptop >seldom use, once charge full just leave it there, & the battery really can tahan...Never charge for very long, when need to use always got power de.
**On both laptop, only the Sony's battery is spoilt using the (charging+using @ same time) BUT DO NOT KNOW whether if that is really the caused for it..mayb just the sony battery lousy?
Maybe when MyPillowTalks come home, i ask him try his poly laptop...LOL...

Yah, its true.
I once supported a school IT environment and those teachers don't listen one. Always charge their laptop and using it at the same it.
In the end, a lot of them got battery spoil. Meaning, the battery may be fully charged but can only last for 1hr or less.
It happens usually when the battery is merely 1 yr old.

for me when i am moving around, i dun take batt out, just in case some idiots itchy hand switch off my power.
when i am at home, i will take the batt out.

Lithium Polymer battery (which are used on laptop, handphone and other movile devices) have no memory effect which means that even if you do not take it out when your laptop is on AC will not reduce your battery life.
Heat generated by the laptop is the main reason why your laptop battery life are reduced. It's all depends on how well your laptop disperse the heat.
Give you a real life example - My friend and I were using the same laptop model. After a few months, my battery couldn't even last 10 mins whereas my friend's battery was able to last about 2 hrs.
The difference? I play games on my laptop and I use my laptop frequently since I do not have a desktop, thus lots of heat were generated by the laptop and the ventilation design on my laptop sucks which affected my battery. I didn't know heat reduced the battery life. By the time I know that, it was too late.

which is why, there's such thing as a laptop cooler pad..

argg... and now i regretted not taking out my battery when I'm gonna use my laptop extensively... The price of the laptop battery is about $200++ and they told me its already a student discounted price.
So take care of your battery.

Well, one thing is that the battery life will drastically reduce to a few minutes.

yup yup.. I did that 12 hours first charging.. For my laptop, (fujitsu by the way), if it's fully charge, the battery's light indicator will turn off automatically (some laptop battery light's indicator only turn green, if I not wrong)... So, as long as it turns off, then I'll just stop the charging... well, thx again anyway...

i do the following.
at home using laptop, remove battery, use direct power.
if not using battery, remove, leave it at 40% full.
going out, charge till full.
once home, use up till 40% or charge up to 40%.
remove battery.
use direct power. -
may i remind that 40% is the recommended storage battery capacity.

Got 1 question. Sometimes there will be a sudden power surge. If we take out the battery, and there is a sudden surge, (battery taken out.) Will it spoil the comp causing the motherboard to burn completely? My friend using Acer Laptop using it without the battery and now got some problems. Dunno is it due to this......
