Hi all, mine's a Compaq Presario V3000 running Winxp SP2.
I pressed the power button, heard a pop sound (like 'boom', sounds like turning on the stove), and the monitor blacked out. Tried turning on and off again, waiting a few hours and retrying, but monitor refuses to turn on.
The hard drive orange light turns on for a while after hitting the power button, then turns off. I tested both with battery power and with adapter, shouldn't be an adapter problem.
Worse still, I tested with my school projector (hooked the projector wire to the computer), projector showed nothing.
What should I do? It's pretty old, I don't really want to repair it because I already have a replacement netbook. Is there any way to recover the data? Like can I pluck out the hard drive and access from another computer? Or is it a hard drive problem?
Thanks.
when you connect it to a projector, you will have to press the respective Fn+F(x) keys. Did you do that?
Few questions:
was your battery fully charged/ can it run for at least 15 minutes without charging?
Is the initial hard disk light orange? and how long is awhile?
From my point of view, i would diagnose the boom as out of battery, thus the hdd shuts down. When ever you press the power, it definitely will have lights , however, it will end pretty quick (like 3 seconds or so)
boom = liao most of the time..
can pull out the HDD, attach power source, plug into another PC to copy out the data..
that's what the people did to the PC at work when a part of it went boom too
or buy a HDD casing, and you got a secondary hdd for any backup..
"boom" = wantan = kaput = habis = sayonara ....
