Hello...
I'm intending to get a new laptop at the upcoming IT fair..I want a very hardy one that can withstand my porting it around, because I dont intend to leave the laptop at home at all, unless I'm at home.. the specs I have in mind are,
1) small, lightweight, portable (preferably 1+ kg or less)
2) fast startup speed
3) fast internet
4) great for downloading (using bittorent to download large files)
5) cheap (less than 1K SGD)
6) hardy and durable (last more than 3 yrs?)
Any recommendations? Please please really help me, cos my laptop is broken and I really have no means to access the internet to research for laptops! (well only in the office, but the available computers are snapped up fast during lunch break)
Thanks!
I can recommend netbook, cause they fit in all your categories. Light, those by ASUS have 5-sec ExpressGate, Most have 802.11b/g/n, Some have Gigabit Ethernet, only one I know has a 160GB HDD (ASUS N10Jc), 1k less, cheapest is Around $500, Quite a few have a good build quality.
If you want a netbook, go for the ASUS N10Jc (Yes, I'm biased toward ASUS) because it can play your occaisional 3D game as well, along with Vista for $998. Or the ASUS EEE PC, or Acer Aspire One for your browsing and light work.
just note that netbook do not have built in DVD/CDROM.
to Raraken and playmemory:
is netbook better than conventional laptop? Since netbook doesn't have built-in DVD/CDROM drive (as mentioned by playmemory), then what is the advantage of having a netbook? [Pls bear with me..technie idiot..]
Raraken, is there a cheaper notebook that you can recommend to me? Actually I was hoping for a price around the range of like 500-700..
