Greetings,
I've been increasingly frustrated with the lack of connection to the internet that my laptop has been facing.
I am currently using a 8mbps Maxonline connection, with my computer connected directly to my modem with Mozilla as my main browser. I use Internet Explorer too and they both are giving me the same problems.
The problem surfaces itself most frequently at night (quite possibly because its a high peak hour).
What I experience often:
1) My msn status has a link with the words "Due to a connection problem, changes that you make might not be applied to other computers you use"
2) Websites loading up partially, sometimes only the words and links appear, nothing else. No colors no nothing, just the words.
3) My browser not loading anything at all. You know how it is supposed to be like when you've just hit the enter button and there'd be a progress bar. Well, nothing, and it stops there. So I'd have to hit the enter/refresh button a few times before I get a response.
4) My browser stops loading at the 99% mark.
5) Pages like friendster takes forever to load up, sometimes 10 minutes. Pictures just refusing to load.
6) MSN telling me that the messages that I have sent have not been received by the other party.
7) Even hotmail takes foreveeeeeeer to load
Is there anything I can do? Starhub keeps telling me that I seem to have a "clear signal" and that there is nothing wrong with my connection. I think this is them being lazy at helping. That, or they'd ask me to reconnect everything, same shit stays though.
I'll appreciate any help rendered, and should you need to know more, please let me know through this thread and I'd be more than happy to accept any assistance.
Thank you very much in advance :)
u sure is 8 mbps... ...
is no wonder it's dat slow... ...

errrrrrrr ..........
i must say ... ... not a good and wise plan to choose... ..
did u compare it wif other planns?
yes yes i did, $12 more i think for an extra 4mbps, and for the 100mbps its nearly $90 a month. I can't afford that :(
8mbps plans already quite "high-end" wor...
singtel only offers up to 10mbps ala-carte
lol... ...
my 100mbps starhub... ...
S$53+++
but at least singtel's connections are dedicated to the user :/ starhub's entire wire is shared by the whole block, so my download speed is dependant upon my fellow users too lol (doesnt help that i stay on the second floor :P)
this is getting very frustrating, earlier on i did a speed test, my average download speed is POINT 5 mbps, which is pathetic. im paying for 1/16th of what im getting. Argh

o.0... ...
wad u meant by shared by the block???
dun u have ur own cabel modem...
btw, my internet speed always is like 1% out of my 100 mbps, download speed: 10++ % out of the 100 mbps ... actually still works fine... idk abt u...
one try dis for downloading:
FREE download Manager
good software, boast ur download speed
fwy87 meant that max online connection is shared, how fast your upload or download speed is dependant on the bandwidth available in the "pipe" on your block.
More users online = slower. Less users = faster. (Limited to your plan suscribed too!)
Since its widely known that for starhub, a same block of flats normally "share" the same connection.
Singtel users are affected by the no. of users online too! But only to a small extent, you can feel the sluggish connections during morning and evening peak hours but really its not that bad compared to starhub since I've used both ISPs before.
And every 1st week of the month on some day, the connection for Singtel users is really bad, i assume they are doing some sort of maintanence.
Of course don't expect to hit your full 8mbps, its never as advertised. Practically speaking, its almost impossible to hit the max speed of the plan you suscribe to.
i used to subscribe the cheapest plan from starhub. it really sucks. esp at peak hours from 9pm to 2am. i cannot even surf my favourite website.
so i concluded that starhub give lowest pirolity to the slowest bandwidth when comes to connection sharing or bandwidth sharing.
i guess TS will just have to bear with it until the contract ends.
