I own a Compaq Presario V3136TU and HP Pavillion DV1627TS.. And amazingly due to over-charging.. whenever i leave house to use the notebook outside it hardly lastly longer then 15 minutes. Anyone have a rough idea how much the battery could cost?
Depending on the cell rating of the battery( 6, 12 etc), it will cost from 50 and above i think.
if im right, i bought my 12 cell compaq battery at 120, so use tt as a rough guide (:
and do note that the original replacements costs significantly more than their aftermarket counterparts.
Obviously, but unless u want ur battery to have the risk of exploding, best to stay away from aftermarket's.
to minimise battery damage, remove your battery from the laptop once fully charged, and store in a cool dry place. especially if you laptop is a desktop replacement type, where the laptop is most frequently plugged in at home instead of being used outside, remove the battery.
always use the battery till its nearly flat (applies whenever possible, please use sensible judgement) before recharging. continuous charging and partial-discharge detiororates the battery cell life.

On the contrary, never allow it to go below 5% charge frequently. Safe side is 10% level before charging. It's impractical to remove it once fully charged. Simply dont run on AC power all/most of the time.
ya... but are the batteries standard type? like interchangeable?

well, the removal part is mainly for users like me, when i only bring my laptop out on weekends, and occasionally to school when i work on projects.
most of the time its on my desk, plugged in to ac power. so i just make sure after every battery run, i recharge it to full capacity, and then i store it till the next usage.
if you're using the laptop on ac power for say, a few hours, then there's no need to remove the battery.
only do so if you use the laptop heavily on ac power, like in my above example.

Batteries across a model range is standard. I.e Compaq V3000 series.
usually standard across a series.
An advice, if you want to spare the hassle of removing battery when on AC power at home. After it's fully charge, alternate between using the battery and recharging when at 40% or so. This is assuming you dont repeat teh cycle too often,
