some desktop, some iTunes music folder. even those in ext. HDD i get the same problem... yup
download and install ccleaner..
and then click the registry tab at the left side of the window.
click "scan for issues", and then when done scanning, click "fix all issues"
i'm not 100% sure that this will work, but it's worth a try, since it gives your pc a tune up anyway.
it might be registry related, so try this as an option first.
and don't forget to back up your registry before you clear the issues. (ccleaner will ask you if you wish to do so).

Ur explorer.exe may be infected. Run a virus scan and check.

okay. at least it's narrowed down to the prob. i'm still clueless as to how to fix it... =(
Well, search for alternative OpenSource file manager and try lor.
Most probably your windows explorer is corrupted. you might want to repair it by using your windows disc.

opensourceĀ means free software just like open office lor...
I found this on the net, try at your own risk and remember to backup what you are replacing...
Method:
Go to Start>Search>For Files or Folders... and search for
explorer.exe
You may find a copy in the windows\servicepackfiles\i386 folder. If so,
copy/paste the file to the windows folder.
Your computer should come with a restoration disc. I would recommend you to do a clean reinstallation of your windows though. It would wipe out all corrupted files and problems for a very long period of time. Recommended to format and reinstall the whole OS.
okay thanks. will reinstall as last resort =)
