It was a good industry to be in long ago but not now. Met IT grads having difficulty looking for IT jobs. Nowadays, many companies including government sector employ foreigners for IT jobs.
The job market for IT is too saturated.

Would you take 1.5k/month after you studied so much? The China man will.
I have read your thread, and I shall give a few points based on my view here.
1. The IT industry is saturated indeed - with people who know little shit about IT.
2. If you wish to compete in terms of salary (like what SG government has been doing to our workforce, and the opposite to themselves), you'll probably lose out to those in China and India in the long run.
3. Smart employers (unless you want to work with dumb employers who would shout at you every single working day) don't look at the cost of an employee alone - they do factor in the quality and speed of their employees. For example, if there's two salesmen applying for a job, one asks for a salary of $5,000 and promises a turnover of $100,000 within a month for your company, and the other demands $50,000 but can ensure a turnover of $1,000,000 within two weeks - who would you hire?
as a wag answer to your third point ....
the cheaper one .....
cos the cheaper fellows would be foreign talents from china and india ....
and they certainly can pad the resume and talk better at the interview than you would ....
doesn't matter if 6 months down the line they get fired for not performing ... cos meantime, you'd still be out of a job ...

Well, if I were to demand $50,000 for my salary, I would probably spend some time preparing my resume and interview and the FTs will probably return to their villages when they couldn't find a job here for 6 months. Then I can stop performing and the company will have a hard time finding a replacement and would think twice about firing me.
sorry a correction to my forum address it is http://itcareer.sgforums.com not http://tech.sgforums.com
Well depends on how specialized you are in your field. It is possible to get paid up to 5k to 7k per months for IT projects. I have ever received that before.
But mostly I do on per contract basis. Never liked full time employment anyway. :P
