I seriously need help regarding this topic. Anyone who provide me some useful information or links will have my thanks.
SMS refers to small messaging service.
Consider yourself in this situation:
You are a network administator of a certain organisation that has its own in-house mail server.
Your boss wants you to implement a system that can:
Send SMS to groups of people with a common computer connected to the Internet.
Send SMS alerts to their respective staff whenever its email account recevied an email.
The system should be configurable so that only certain type of emails will trigger the SMS alerts. (Example: Junk mails should not trigger the alert)
What can/will you do to enable such a system?
Do you need to develop your own software or you can simply just buy it "off-the-shelf"?
Do you need pay telcommunication company for the SMS?
SMS = Short Message Service
To send SMS, you will need to sign up with a SMS gateway provider, e.g. http://www.clickatell.com/.
They have an email to sms feature, http://www.clickatell.com/solutions/business/email.php but you will have to figure out how to make your email client or email server auto send out the email to the sms service.
Thanks for the info. I found something better.
SMS FOXBOX

Now, I just need to figure how to allow the mail server to auto-send SMS.
If Foxbox doesn't turn out to be the right fit, you might want to look at Digium's PBX cards. A Linux mail server equipped with their telephony card + Asterisk Open source can do voip/landline/SMS/email/database etc - fully programmable/customisable/integrated.
There is also a huge open source community supporting this solution
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+cmd+Sms
If open source is not your preference there are several sg
companies with proprietary SIM-card solutions.
Though Imo Digium + Asterisk gives you the most power+flexibility.
cheers
