mine is enabled and it auto-download updates for me but let me choose when i want to install them. but the thing is, there's the irritating icon at the bottom-right corner that keeps wanting me to install and restart.
aft i've done so, a certain update cannot be installed due to some error (which i've completely no idea abt), so yeah, fine, i say just carry on without installing that particular update. and yes the things installs everyth else, i restart my comp, comp gets back up...then, the stupid icon is still there because of this one particular update which i couldnt install, and it keeps asking me to install it again (which of course doesnt work).
is there any way to remove that stupid update from windows update? someth that tells the comp i dont want to install that particular update, which i cant anyw.
thanks all.

There is a way to remove the stupid update. One is to install Linux.
The other is to tell us which hotfix (KB number) is giving you problems.
you must manually install that stupid update that caused the problem. coz windows update hit an error while auto install the update. Check the system event log for the details.
one of the updates (there are like seven uninstalled) that i couldnt install is IE7. and downloaded the setup file to manually install and it still doesnt work. i tried to use windows update again and i got this error msg:
wuauclt.eve - Application Error
'The instruction at "0x76c941b1"referenced memory at "0x76c941b1". The memory could not be "written"
Click on OK to terminate the program'
at least I THINK that windows update caused this error. updates like SP3 also couldnt be installed. im on XP btw.
yuppers
Like earlier, i still have two alternatives for you.
1) Uninstall Windows and install Linux
2) Manual download the fixes, unplug from the network, disable AV, install the fixes.
could it be a malware in your pc? Do a anti virus scan
scanned comp with AVG nothing came up
By any chance if it's a .NET Framework update?
