I was looking through the internet search for a hosting company for my company's new website. Apparently I chanced upon this site cmsforever.com. I don't know if I should sign up for its services. The reason is while all the other hosting services I have came across either required a monthly or yearly subscription, or imposed advertising banners on the site, cmsforever.com only require a one time payment to have the web hosting account and domain name setup and owned forever without advertising.
I mean it sounds pretty crazy.
Mind if any of you who has signed up for this company's package give me some feedback. Hopefully as soon as possible. Cause I read that there are only 500 accounts up for grabs, and I seriously wonder how many there are left?
Very unbelieveable.

I share the same view point with the people there.
I wonder why would you be the one in charge of something that you obviously had no clue about?
There is obviously not the numbers of account left. Just a advertising ad to push people to sign up.
There is no such thing as forever... What will happen if their company had no income and still need to maintain the site? Their company will fold and so will their servers...
And it is always better to get hosting and domain in different coy.
Since it's a company website, just use the funds to get a reliable and well known hosting company site.
reducing downtime ect.
Paid hosting services usually have no ads. It's only the free ones that have it.
You probably stumbled upon those offering free domains (pay very little or none at all) --- these hosting services usually have ads.
When it seems too good to be true, it probably is - especially when you're talking about something related to the net. Just ask yourself, what can you do if they turn out to be conmen who later shut down the web hosting service and run away with your money?

Well you know economic crisis and all, so everyone is thinking of cutting cost (citibank workers got retrench, DBS workers got retrench....etc etc), So boss being alittle on the kiasu side, (though company is still making really nice profits at the moment), told me to research into alternatives to cut cost from our existing operating structure as well. So apparently hosting cost came up as one of the ways that we can look into for cutting cost as well.
Of course there are other means for cutting cost too, some of them are listed below
By the way any of you got any good ideas for cutting operating cost to recommend? Like cheap suppliers for example?
Yeah, anyone out there got retrenched lately by the way? Is it hard looking for jobs now? Asking around just in case my boss gets any bright ideas. :P

- Retrench unproductive workers - like what is going on in the market now (pretty scary better not look in that direction)
- Look for process innovation
- Reduce expenditure on marketing
- Look for cheaper suppliers - that is how this whole thing with cmsforever.com came about, also thinking of switching to a new stationary supplier www.yunnan.com.sg maybe switching our printing suppliers. Haven't thought of a good one though.

You should probably post this as a separate thread on Chit Chat or some other general forums to elicit more responses for such questions. Besides, if he's asking you to do all the thinking, you might as well become his boss instead.
I don't know how much is your company currently paying for web hosting, but a good one out there would only cost you $100 per year or so. I don't see why a company isn't able to allocate that amount to it if they're serious about having an online presence.

Well you know the thing about bosses nowadays, don't you? they always love to squeeze what they can out of their staff. Never had those problems before do you?

Yea, I handled some of those take-all-you-can clients before who tried to maximize what little budget they had on hand - I dropped them like hot potatoes as soon as I'm done with their first project and went on to look for other clients.

Yeah they might. Only problem is this company has been around for ages under the name futureworkz.com.sg. They have quite a few very big clients in their portfolio. Apparently this is a recent branch off from their main operations (web developement) and their office is just downstairs from mine at iHUB. I often have coffee with one of their staff.
I think if it is a scam, it will definitely be very hard for them to run off with such a major establishment they have and all.
Nonetheless, I think I should go tease him about it over coffee tomorrow. Hehehe.... :P
And probably sign up a few accounts with him after that. After all he did leak out info that his boss will be switching the pricing structure back to normal after the 500 accounts have been sold. Not much left apparently less than 50 accounts actually.
