Around how much does a 2 gigabyte DDR2 RAM cost? And, where to get it?
Is it cheaper at Sim Lim? Or Funan? Or anywhere else.
I'm asking for the price cos i'm afraid of scammers at Sim Lim or any other place. Thanks for the help.
Kingston DDR2-800 CL5 2 GB RAM modules going for $39 each @ SLS Fuwell #04-02F/G.
will the upcoming sitex sells ram cheaper than SL?
does the brand matter when buying ram? will it like void warranty or sth?
want to upgrade my lappie's ram but i dun really know all these IT stuff tt well. i did some googling n found up my lappie can max support up to 4gb ram, with 2 slots, so i intending to get 2 2gb ram at sitex. but i not very sure of the type of ram to buy. scare i buy wrg ><
any advice?

You can support up to 4GB of ram.
However, do note, that if you are using windows Xp / vista (without sp1), it will show up as 3.2gb of ram. - you are not cheated. it's just the case.
It will not void the warranty.
Sintex Should be cheaper than in Simlim.
Your current installed ram is 512MB.
When you are getting ram, get those with the "DDRII" - this would mean the type of ram it is.
Do not worry about the the xxx Mhz - in my opinion you can get those which are slightly above your front side bus, as, that's the max speed your ram can read/write at.
oh. icic. thz so much =)
btw, how does upgrading of os work? it wld reformat my c drive only or both of my hard disk?
possible to upgrade from xp to vista if i use my fren's recovery cd, if his os is vista? or do i nid to go n buy those authentic upgrade?
if nid to buy, how much is vista now? which version better?
will vista use up alot of space or slow down my com? cos my c drive only got 40gb n my processor dual core is 1.8ghz.
hahaha. sry for asking so many questions >< cos if i upgrading to 4gb ram n xp dun recognise then might as well use vista. but then again, i scare if use vista my com will be slow then defeat the purpose of upgrading my ram le. ><

all partitions will be removed. - C and D - it will wipe away all xp files and everything in your hdd, unless you dual boot
new partitions will be made when you install windows vista.
Nope, your friend's recovery disc will not work. The recovery cd does not contain installation files. You will have to get the upgrades / cd for installation.
Depends on what version you buy, price differs. it depends on the usage too,

Vista will definitely slow down your system. I would not reccommend vista if you are using an integrated graphics.
upgrading to vista will definitely defeat the purpose of having 4gb ram
ohh.. thz alot =)
ya i think my lappie is using integrated graphics..
guess i jus upgrade my ram to 4 gb then..
oh ya.. if it showed up as 3.2gb ram then the remaining 0.8gb leh? so the 0.8gb wont be utilised?

your lappie is Vista or XP? if XP, get i 2GB and another of 1GB. make sure that they have the same frequency, let's say, 667MHz. that will make 3GB and that's more than enough for XP.

find out about where the rest goes
They are being utilized from wad i have heard
oh. ya i using xp. was thinking getting 4gb cos thinking of upgrading to vista, but since vista defeat purpose of upgrading ram, i guess i jus stick to xp.
erm.. not both slots balance then better in efficiency ar? >< tot i read somewhere if both sides not the same, then the system will run at the slower speed? or does the speed refer to the xxx Mhz thingy? *blur*
so if both 667mhz then 3gb engh for xp le ar?
p/s the article too chim for me to digest le. hahaha. ><
ehh.. anyone can answer my question? haha... so it's ok to have both sides of ram not the same capacity? they same speed can liao right?
if one slot is running 533mhz and the other is rnning 667mhz, the speed will slow down to match the slower one, in this case, 533.
for laptop, they usually dont support dual channel memory, so its ok if the two slots have different amount of memory.
ohh.. thz so much =)
ermm.. so i jus go the booth n say i wan to buy laptop ram? how is e ram packaging like ar? as in they r sold packaged in boxes? haha.. i nvr buy ram b4 n nvr see the display b4.. lolx..
ram ownself install easy? jus open n slot out slot in? anything to take note of when installing the ram?
kingston de gd?

anyway i am planning to install Vista on another comp after the upgrade. currenly having Windows XP Pro. but how to make it dual boot?
Stay with XP Pro....is better than Vista.....

yes its sold in a semi hard plastic packaging.
refer to your product documentation on where is the ram slots location.
kingston not bad

depends.
mhz, is how fast the ram processes data. (read/write)
if your computer's fsb is only 667mhz, there is no point having a 768mhz (fake no.) as the ram's top speed will still be 667mhz

you sure about this first?

but must comply with the limit also rite?
if im nt wrong, if mobo says can only support up to, e.g. 4gb ddr2 ram @667 then the max speed u put in must be 667?
or is it possible to insert a 800mhz and the mobo will scale it down to 667?
Yes. The RAM clockspeed can become lower to accommodate these kind of things. However, they can't go higher.
If you are not using a 64-bit OS, 4Gb is useless. You might as well just get 3 GB and save some money.
Oh Yeah, a question on RAM but totally different type.
If my CPU has a 1066MHz FSB and I have 800MHz RAM, it doesn't mean that my FSB is reduced right? And what happens if I increase the FSB (eg. to 1333MHz). Will my RAM become damaged?
ohh.. okie.. thz.. hopefully i dun get cheated ><
think i jus get a 2gb then plus my original ram 512 shld be engh for xp le bah.... if not engh nxt time then buy again... haha..
thz all =)

option no2.
it will scale down, from 800mhz to the max of 667mhz.
analogy of a car lor, your top speed 500km
but road allows you to go max 100km
