Im running Photoshop CS3 on Vista SP1
nowadays when i open images, or just blank 'canvas', it will not respond.
I reinstalled it ttwice, switchign from C drive to D drive, yet the problem persisted
Sometimes it will hang and hang when i move the images around
how much RAM is it using?
im using 4gb corsair XMS2 ram, dual channel 800 mhz 2x2gb KIT @ 4-4-4-12lantency
it will hang even i just open a blank canvas

so i gave up and switched to GIMP 2 ....

gimp can edit psd file? working on some document
yes ... can handle psd .... best of all ... it's free ....
maybe your scratch disk isn't enough.

It's like virtual RAM or a page file but just for Photoshop. Since there's an issue with PS CS3, why not take this chance to uninstall it and install the new PS CS4 instead?

fixed, changed the scratch disc to the place i installed,bring th cache level all the way up, let it utilise 1.6gb of ram
then no more crashing
