Hi Guys Does any one knows of anything or programs that can restrict internet bandwith to certain computers? lets say 3 laptops shares the internet from a router 1 thru ethernet and the other 2 thru wireless. Is there any way to restrict how much bandwith to distribute among them?
I guess nobdy can help? ...... or no expertise here...........

look from each individual system's point of view...not through the router...unless ur router already has a bandwidth limiting function installed.
You need a router which supports QoS to do so. What's your router brand and model?
Hi I'm using a Dlink DIR 615 Thanks for helping :p
I suppose it supports QoS.

Simply follow the guide below to setup the QoS rules. You may need to set up static IP addresses beforehand.

Erm.,.. i'm really sry but i dun understand.. .can you help me ?

Basically, what you need to do beforehand is to set up a static IP address for each computer connected to a network so that you don't have to change the QoS settings frequently as you would if they are dynamic. Follow the guide below, and if you have any problem with it, specify which step you are stucked at.
http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
One thing to note is that at Step 9, regarding the "Preferred DNS Server" and "Alternate DNS Server" settings, you should use the following values, depending on your ISP.
Singnet
Preferred: 165.21.83.88
Alternate: 165.21.100.88
Starhub
Preferred: 203.116.1.78
Alternate: 203.116.254.150
And the IP address assigned to each computer must be unique.
After setting up the static IP address for each computer, follow the second link in my previous post to set up the QoS rules. To get you started, here's an example:
If you wish to give priority to a particular computer which you have assigned a static IP address of 192.168.0.101 earlier on, just add a rule like:
Name: Teh pwnz0r compewta
Priority: 1 (the smaller the number, the higher the priority)
Protocol: Both
Local IP Range: 192.168.0.101 to 192.168.0.101
Local Port Range: 0 to 65535
Remote IP Range: 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255
Remote Port Range: 0 to 65535
Then maybe you have another computer, which is assigned the IP address of 192.168.0.102, and you would like to give priority to it for the connection bandwidth, but not before the computer above. So you would create a new QoS rule but use a higher value in the Priority field, with everything else the same, like this:
Name: Teh not-so-pwnz0r compewta
Priority: 2
Protocol: Both
Local IP Range: 192.168.0.102 to 192.168.0.102 (don't forget to replace .101 with .102, since this QoS rule is for the second computer now)
Local Port Range: 0 to 65535
Remote IP Range: 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255
Remote Port Range: 0 to 65535
Let me know if you have any other questions.
if i do this set up will it affect if next computer wants to access my internet do i have to manually set up another ip for that computer? will my port forwarding be affected ? if lets say i did a portforwarding for my online game?

You don't have to set up a static IP address for each of your computer, but I'll recommend you to do so. And yes, you will have to update the port forwarding rules by modifying the value in IP address field to your computer's static IP address.
Hi latecomer, i tried to set up the static ip and stuff but its really too troublesome LOL I just found another way to restrict wireless bandwith on the router settings itself. Downside is that all PCs connecting on wireless will receive restricted bandwith.
Thank you for your kind patience and your help yah :)
D-Link Singapore support team stated the Singapore version of DIR-615 does not support QoS. The US version from B1 supports QoS, and there is a firmware v2.25 for it. Anyone tried this firmware before?
(Note warranty will void if you upgrade to US version.)
