got light but nothing on screen

I Got a problem with my desk top.
When i switch on the pc , a steady and long light from the HDD light and and power light keep coming out.
The screen did not come out any thing..
Does anyone knoe wat is the problem?

Colour of the light please + brand of HDD. Most HDDs have only green light, but have seen some with other colours which meant different things.

My comp HDD has only one colour which is red. And my power supply is green in colour.
When i switch on the comp both light come on and on and on.It did not go off until i manual switch off the cpu.
I did not even see the bios screen le. My moniter did not receive any signal from the cpu.

Could anyone help mi pin point my problem as this is the first time i seeing this problrm.
i guess is either power supply or cpu le? But how to know without dismentaling the cpu.

if your hdd is able to be lighted up, the psu (power supply unit) is not faulty.
what i would recc would be hdd.

Seems to be a graphics card or monitor issue. Graphics card shouldn't be dead, otherwise you will hear beeps when booting up.
Do you have a spare computer? If so, try the following.
1. If you have an external graphics card, remove it and plug it into the spare computer. If it works fine, test scenario 2.
2. Repeat for the HDD. Ensure that only the HDD is plugged in to the spare computer. The rest of the hardware you have to use back your spare computer's hardware. If it works, test scenario 3.
3. Plug in both the affected computer's graphics card and HDD to the spare computer.
If either of the scenario doesn't work, report back.

hmms, is there any sound being made @ this moment of time when you try to switch it on? Like for example a click click click sound or a "thud thud thud"- any unusual sounds?
There could be a theory that your cables are not properly connected. you can try fixing them properly.
And if i may ask, how old is your computer?

I tried to connect everything properly liao. Every wire seems tight.
There were no any unusal sound when switching on the comp.
It could not even open my cd drive and it just hang there with nthing on the screen with the power light and hdd light on.

Ya btw my comp is a around 2.5 - 3 yrs old for motherboard , the rest slighty more then 3 yrs. I bought my comp during the era of pentium 4 ,can't really remember the ram. either 512mb or 1g. At that time this type of comp consider fast liao.

haha. mine 4 years old then die off. with a Pentium 4 2.4GHz, 40GB HDD and 512MB ram. mobo is MSI one. NVIDIA GeForce 5200 FX
