Their customer service is lousy?
I had encounters with their customer service when I was still using my IPAQs, I recall that they were very helpful and polite.
the people who pick up, yeah theyre good and polite. one of the best i must say, but the waiting time/dropped calls is totally atrocious
i was referring to the quality, built of their laptops.

I had the most pleasant experience when I brought in my IPAQ for repair some 3 years ago. They even offered a similar IPAQ as a replacement till mine was ready for collection.
buy apple....period!
Just called them 2 weeks ago.
Reason: Failed Hdd.
I can say, their help desk is quite knowledgable. Very informative, very helpful, but the quality of the calls is umm, very bad.
I can't hear the first indian lady whom i contacted. -- She hung up on me too =_-
The 2nd person, was an indian guy. -- the one who attended to me. very nic and friendly, haha, but i had already anticipated what steps he's gona ask me and did that way before hand. LOL.
LOL tech guy talking to tech guy like the other tech guy's a noob.

Actually that night before, i already went to the bios to do the hdd test,
removed my battery and pressed the on button for 30 seconds. (discharge it)
did many other things.. ect. Ram test via bios ect.
did recovery too (but got error)
just wanted a 2nd opinion, in case there were miracles and a get case number so i can just drop it there and no need to do those boring, senseless diagnostics.
edit: not recovert, is recovery
hmm i guess it depends on individual preferences

hmm
ok u were in the BIOS :P
got any option there to run the fans at max permanently?
Take Pavilion(take the new dv3xxx, dv5xxx), 3 yrs warranty. (Avoid dv6xxx)
If gt the extra cash, go for Toshiba/Asus.
Take Compaq only if you are really under budget, and buy the new models like CQxx not the v3000/v6000 neither the A-series.

Their online support HQ is at India
I only called up their Service Centre once, and served by an Indian whose's English is so terrible for me to understand.
I gave up, and went straight to Service Centre everytime.
aiya its dependent on the use of the PC and the budget. ASUS would be good for gaming, those G1 G5 things, and the dv2000 series is a mix of occasional gaming and portability. dv6000 seems a bit lacking on the sturdiness (floppy screen and such) but its still a worthwhile not-so-heavy gaming machine. toshiba laptops are no doubt stylish, but reliability wise, my experience tells me it isnt really that good.
if TS wants a normal laptop juz for internet surfing, typing, and stuff like maplestory, then i dont see why we cannot choose the lower end compaqs. 17 inches and 1k something, its a bargain. its not one's idea for a gaming machine or HD entertainment object, but it gets the job done.
on a side note, the recent compaq CQ40/CQ45's seem to be built on the dv4/dv2000 series chassis.
dv2000 is using the same chasis as compaq v3000, and suffers from the same heat problems.
tosihba not reliable? i beg to differ. =)
well certian ones not really reliable. call me wierd, but i seem to take a liking to the Tecra S1.. hahah.. its one of few business notebooks that arent GMA-ed in terms of graphics.
hmm. the v3000 seems to have a 32mb GMA since i dxd-ed it.. but when strhub gave my frn this notebook, it stated it had a 128mb GMA
