Ok, so I thought I was being smart by updating and upgrading my programs in my laptop.
After all, I had not updated any of the software/hardware for quite a while.
Among some of the updating I did, I downloaded the windows xp service pack 3. And what did that do to my lappy? I get into the welcome screen to log in my password and within 5 seconds, it automaitcally logs me out and returns me to that welcome screen. I'm like wtf?
So what am I suppose to do now that I can't even get into the desktop of my lappy?
lol reformat lol
Reformating is not an option.
Really.
Haiz, where is mayi when you need her?

This problem is worse than I thought.
Checking through some of the service pack 3 problems over the internet came up with a lot of blogs/sites which mentioned numerous incompatitbility problems with other hardware/software programs.
One of them was the inability to boot from safe mode ( I tried getting to safe mode but could not) for some HP computers.
Damn, looks like I might need to get it to real professional to fix this problem.
Anyway, in case there are some people who might want to update their computers with the service pack 3, you had better check out what you problems you might encounter. Don't be like me, thinking updating is always a good thing.
Take hammer wack, 100% will work!
The mods in this forum might want to do some research into this service pack 3 and come up with a sticky thread on it.
I am just looking into the microsoft technet website and the amount of problems caused by this service pack 3 is just incredible.
hahah thats why i never upgrade yet
No problems whatsoever with my XP SP3 with IBM T43...fully patched.
Now trying to make the T43 components work with Ferdora 9.

Ok, finally managed to get into safe mode.
Last known good config.
It goes back to "please select OS to start:"
Which is just my Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition.
Enter.
It goes back to my log in screen. Key in my password.
And voila. It logs me back out automatically again and returns me to my welcome screen again.
On a related note, I have checked the internet and note that it is only on HP Compaq systems that have this looping problem.
Mine's a Compaq.
Let me add on more info that I found out over the net:
It apparently affects those with AMD processors and some solutions include disabling the intelppm.sys file. (No freaking clue as to what all this means but being no expert, I think I should leave it to the experts to do any disabling or deleting of files)

Should be just 1 OS.
Which is Windows XP Home edition. ( This is reflected when I enter the safe mode page)
On the other hand, I did try to install Windows XP (Corporate edition?) also yesterday. Are they the same? Do you think this may have caused some confusion or problems?

u mean xp professional? u did it before all tat came up? did it go into setup screen liao?
The other thing I can think of is that I ran spybot which actually highlighted some win32 things that I thought was some spyware. Yes, yes, I "fixed" it.
Only today did I find out it's something to do with the OS.
Looks like I might just have try reinstalling the windows XP program and see if I can repair it.

Surprisingly, only the windows XP home edition (originally in lappy when I bought it a few years back) is shown.
Nope. The professional edition doesn't seem to come up. You are right. It is a tad strange, come to think about it. I thought I had overwritten the home edition one.
