OpenOffice compatibility?

  There's something I'd like to ask everyone.....

  I'm getting myself a new computer, but I'm not willing to spend on Office 2007.

  Can OpenOffice work on Office 2007 files (.docx, etc), and vice versa?

  open office can definitely work on office files. But microsoft office cannot work on open office files (.odx or something). Not really an issue as you can just save as .doc or .docx formats.

  on thing though, the formatting might be change a little when you open the files made with the other program.

  version 3 (currently in beta) will support opening of MS 2007 format files
  
  or u can dl version 2 (current) and install this

  actually i feel tt those using MS2007 shd have the initiative to save file as 97/2000/XP compatible bcos majority still not on MS2007.

  side-track a bit...for those who dunno...there is an option to save in 97-2003 format in the Office07 programs...so just change once for each program and the default format will be in 97-2003...

  If I'm not mistaken, Excel by default saves in 97-2003 format. PowerPoint also. Word is probably one of those that saves in 2007 format. One reason is because of formatting.

  Word 2007 formatting differs from previous formats.

  Nope.the default from MS is in 2007 format for Excel,Powerpoint and Word.

  and there are always converters around...both online and offline ones...

  Hmm... for mine, only Word saves in 2007 format. The rest is in 2003 format.

  I will go and get a brand new copy to test. I think RP MS Office 2007 installer has been tweaked.

  ok...U try it out bah...anyway U can just go into Word07 and change...no big issue there.
