comp hangs more often than usual

nowadays my comp hangs more often than usual
in the past it NEVER hanged before until recently...
is there a virus or smth? i got norton 08 and i just scanned my comp recently and theres no virus or whatsoever... help...

You might not believe what I'm gonna say, but you can try it out to see if it works.
Uninstall Norton.
It's one of the last AV programs I'd recommend to any user. Your comp should be ok after uninstalling it. For some reason, Norton takes up alot of resources compared to other programs, which can cause severe performance problems in some PCs. You might want to consider some free AV software out there like Avast or AVG.
Unless of course, your computer had this problem before you got Norton, in which case it's something else that's causing the problem. But I'd still advise you to get rid of Norton.

i used avast and avg before i got norton
trust me, they're useless
with them, my comp(old one) still got infected somehow

how does it hang? blue/black screen? cpu got weird sound? pc very lag? can be restart after hang?

do system recovery.
if the problem reoccur, thats something to do with your hardware. either you need to upgrade ram or your hdd got bad sector. -
I need more details.
What do you mean by hang? Or is the computer just slow to react that it appears that it somehow has hung?

Just fyi, AV programs can't detect all types of malware. Some of them can cloak themselves from AV programs through the way they're embedded in the files, paid AV program or not. Among all the free ones out there, Avast and AVG are among the highest rated ones
If you ever decide to uninstall norton, I'm sure that you'll see a vast improvement in the performance of your PC. I'm speaking from experience that I've had in troubleshooting quite a few PCs. Half the time when someone tells me his or her computer is lagging horribly, one of the first things I do is to check if they're using Norton.
Edit: Supposedly Norton has fixed the performance problems to some extent with Norton 08, but still it's being viewed as a major resource hog that causes intermittent system hanging. Do check out some reviews for anti-virus programs. For one, let me direct you to some reviews posted by users on PC World here, and on CNet here .

I also think U should get rid of ur Norton.
Ur old setup(AVG,Avast) could be running at max already...then U install Norton....of course not enough resources mah..

im not sure if its slow or what but its like once i open up like firefox or my email(on IE7) , the comp just freezes. ctrl-alt-del, nth happens
if i spam ctrl-alt-del, a black screen turns up and my cursor would still be there
i currently do not have avast or avg on my comp, only norton

ram is absolutely good.
hmmmm..
1st option: bettr uninstall norton, try using those free AV. delete those unecessary files even those cookies in ur browser. once free AV installed, do a thorough scan.
2nd option: back up your files, do system recovery (load factory settings)
if these things aint gonna work,, prolly something wrong with your hdd.

Norton is resources hogging .. there's alot of review on diff anit-virus on the net, read it when u are free.. U will be surprise not much ppl support norton.

Looks like Windows is running out of resources fast. I recommend that you remove Norton and see what happens. If the same thing still occurs, then we have to look from other areas.

no more alr... but i predict this hanging thing is going to come back again
