like to check with others if you have inconsistency when surfing the internet with starhub broaband, i'm on the ultimate plan...since last week, the speed has been very inconsistent, sometimes it takes ages to load up, even with local sites, apparently there's connection as i get partial site loaded....called for support but their 'specialists' have yet to return call.....could it be modem problems? i've tried both wifi and direct connection, same issue, wifi is secured with broadcasting disabled and mac address filter enabled...tried without firewall too, nothing works....very frustrating as i work using the net...rgds
with starhub, you do not get a dedicated line so sometimes this happens
peak hours is like tt.......
Which area are u living at? If places like Tampines and Bedok your line should be super congested during weekend..
Hmm... speed would vary due to congestion, ISP speed and server's speed...
This is normal for Starhub Maxonline, due to the technology they use(Hybrid Fibre Co-axial) you do not get a dedicated line as it(a very large one) get shared by one block or area.
For Singnet, they use the older Twisted Pair which goes through the phone line. The advantage is that you enjoy a dedicated line so your bandwidth is unaffected by traffic(not as much as Starhub at least) and hence faster speed.
The disadvantage is, the stability of twisted pair is not as good as HFC.There is reports of certain Singnet areas where disconnection/disruption issues is encountered commonly or rarely. In contrast,Starhub Maxonline is stable with very very rare disconnection/disruption isses.
So its up to you if you want stability or speed. My starhub has never encounter a disconnection nor disruption for years until it happened a few days ago,and even so in the middle of the night.
The future is fibre optics cable.
apparently i wasn't the only one with the crawling net, a check with some friends and relatives mostly confirmed that, but things are back to normal again, it seems a starhub tech staff mentioned to a relative when he enquired that starhub was either testing or upgrading some system....the isp should have informed its subscribers.....
