my new laptop comes with 250gb, so they partitioned it into 2 drives, C: which has 118GB, and D: which has 108GB. so total is 226. where did the other 24GB go??
also after programs were installed into C: drive, it says 87GB free, so means 31 GB is used. but when i select everything in C: drive after unhiding all folders and files and click on properties, total space is 15GB only! where did the other 16GB go??
Also, is it possible to join both C: and D: together?
paiseh am a noob
Rest of the HDD space u can said its taken by the "system" and to join two drive together? Can, reformat. If am not wrong D: is your recovery partition right?
i have no idea, this is a vista and i'm pretty new to it. nope D: is like a partition which i am now using to store my personal stuff :s dun really want to reformat cos installing all teh drivers will be a pain in the ass. so jus wondering where all tt space went. its so strange:s mayb tts why they bundled in a free 160gb ext hdd lol
My 500GB after installing OS i got 485gb (i think so) only..
250Gb = 250,000,000,000 bytes =232.83064365386962890625GB
NTFS MFT, hidden partition for recovery , Hibernation(same space as ur ram), paging files, takes up space

Yup yup, He speak truth.
okok hmm, one burning qn though, how do i join my C: an D: together?
partition magic program or you find a 3rd party software. Select the option carefully as it might have a risk of formatting your disk
actually your new laptop still under warranty right? just get their tech support to help you. :) you anyhow modify things wait they say u.. :P
Vista only got the function to partition but not join =(
