Hi.
I just bought a sata hdd and it seems that vista is unable to detect plug and play and deem it as a unknown device. How to I resolve this problem. Seemingly, I need the usb mass storage driver and I couldn't find it anywhere in the internet, any help?
For the problem above, I read one of the blog and had copied a usbstor.inf into the windows/inf directory to rectify and utilise the hdd. But still the system kept prompting me to install the driver for my hdd and although now I can use it, there seems to be no way rectifying the problem... Any ideas?
Another thing is that I need to know where to service my maxtor hdd, it suddenly stop working...
Thanks for your time.

but ur usb can detect other device? if cannot go update ur driver...
its either your external casing is spoilt, or hdd is. or maybe even both
you can either test by taking you hdd out and put it into another external casing and test. if it works, your casing is faulty.
or you can take a working hdd and put it into that external casing of yours and see if it works, if it does, your hdd is faulty.
if the above 2 fails, plug the 2nd set you brought in onto the laptop. if it works, both you external casing and hdd are faulty.
well, nothing is spoilt except the os in my com.
try every way i know to resolve the matter...
update, search, you name it...
I got a temporary solution for the problem but I am looking for a permament one...
I copied the usbstor.inf into the windows/inf folder and it manage to allow me access my hdd but the com kept trying to install the driver for the hdd... you know how annoying it would get...
So, I am looking for a perm solution.
Don't direct me to windows update, been there done that.
are you trying to said you tried the external hdd on another PC and it worked?
if you are using a desktop pc, try to connect to the USB slot behind your PC.
vista should be able to detect any usb thumb drive or external harddisk.
vista sucks
pirated vista?
