problem with External Hard Disk

  I've got some problem from my external hard disk, which is from Maxtor. After I updated my documents and close every window of the hard disk, I can't seem to safetly remove the drive.

  The light keeps blinking as if it's still copying some files but  there are already no files being copied. I'm not copying anymore files.

  Must wait from 5-10mins then the light stop blinking and can safetly remove. I don't know why though.

  
  Anybody know why?

  If you are using XP, the problem might be due to system restore function.

  Just disable monitoring for system restore for that removeable drive.

  2 methods:

  method 1:

  Start > Run > Type in RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

  method 2:

  Optimise it for quick removal

  1. Right click on the USB drive icon in My Computer.
  2. Select the Hardware tab.
  3. Select your USB drive and click on Properties.
  4. Now click on Policies tab

  

  Optimize for Quick removal

  This setting disables write caching on the disk so that you can disconnect this drive without using the Safely Remove Hardware icon

  Optimize for Performance

  This setting enables the write caching on the disk so as to improve disk performance. To disconnect this drive, you should use the Safely Remove Hardware icon so as not to hurt your USB drive
