I always wanted to ask this but somehow never....
Anyway, I bought my first external HDD 3 months back (less than 3 actually) during the IT Show, there is this 3 years warranty. But till now, I've yet to register the warranty online.
My question is, do I have to register it the day I bought it? Or can I just register the warranty anytime I like? Isn't this like cheating? (like if you buy mobile phones from those shops, you can write the date of purchase yourself on the warranty card)
Will they check if I send it for service (eg. ask me to produce my receipt, with the date of purchase stated) ? If I cheat right, the date of purchase and the day I register the warranty will not match ma. Like that they will know

Service centres are not stupid...they will ask for receipt...dun have warranty card neber mind...must have receipt...the period of warranty will be determined from the receipt.
If no receipt, then have to pay minimum service charge + costs liao...
confirm will check one....its a difference between getting paid for the service and hardware,if applicable and FOC....assuming no oversight lar...
no, there is no warranty card
theres a sticker on the box, with serial number eg..... it is to register the warranty online.
so i would like to know if the period of warranty is determined from the date of purchase, or from the day i register it online.
Because what if i lost my receipt, will that mean the warranty will cover from the day i register it online? because theres no way to check already when is the date i first purchased it when i lost my receipt
means the warrenty is void.

ok...for question 1...it should be determined from date of purchase.
For Question 2,no receipt means the date of purchase cannot be determined...means no warranty. Registering online doesnt really mean anything.U still need to produce the receipt when U bring in ur product for service.
date of manufacture of the hdd
then you better register now. Cos it would be void if the batch number is too old.

oh....
lol, i still thought like registering online plays an impt role or sth.... hmmm ok.. i go and find my receipt in case i need it next time
thanks~
i heard of the date of manufacture too.... but for my case shld be not like that..
yea.. i better go register la.. lol.. i also have no means to 'cheat' the warranty, just wanted to know how it works.... dont know bout the batch number issue tho
thanks peeps~
How long could you cheat?
some companies close eye give u benefit of doubt, but they do know.
For Hdd, u would normally need a pop (proof of purchase), registration shud be registered max1 week after the product is bought.
Hi again...this is slightly off topic but i have to ask.
I am buying an internal hard disk drive for my desktop.
1) I see three different types of drives being sold, IDE,ATA and SATA2. How do i know which one to buy?
2) I do realize that by changing the hard drive, i would most likely have to buy a new copy of Windows. However, I have a HP Recovery Disks that I made when I first bought my desktop. Will it be able to install Windows on my new hard drive?
Thanks in advance! :)
