  i agree that firefox with noscript is really safe, but it will be troublesome at first for many users as it blocks practically every scripts.

  Uninstall Java. It's not needed anyway... unless you pay tax online... bloody government.

  I only enable java to run from the site I visit. eg. all scripts from www.singtel.com. anything non-www.singtel I won't allow at all.

  You need to remove some sites from the default whitelist (e.g Google Syndication)

  If you visit any site regularly, whitelist it. Otherwise, temporary allow if it doesn't seem to work properly.

  It blocks Flash by default as well... if you don't scripts to run but want Flash to run... just click on the movie and OK the prompt and the Flash movie will play.

  By the way, Java and JavaScript are too different things.

  For Java applets to run, Java Runtime Environment needs to be installed. JavaScript is supported on most browsers and it runs automatically by default on browswers which support it.
