under "my computer"
if i right click on drive C (programme) or drive D (data)
there is "properties"
under "properties" got two options for u to tick, u can tick both also
1. compress drive to save disk space
2. allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching
my no. 2 is checked
Question is:-
I am wondering if i can also tick no. 1?
what will happen if i tick no. 1?
thanks.
Indexing will slow down the computer.
compress drive to save disk space
The title says it all. It helps u use less space by squeezing all data into a small space. You can tick it, how ever if ur hdd crashes, there's a > possibility that these data cant be recovered
allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching
It is only worth doing if you frequently go searching in large numbers
of .doc files (and a few other types) for ones containing specific text.
It uses spare time when the machine is doing nothing to go round
building indexes to speed up such searches. But the process once
started can be intrusive, and there is only real benefit in offices,
handling large numbers of documents that need to be searched for content
thanks!
