this is the 21937857168576th thread about buying laptops.....
different ppl got differents needs mah, but u sure that many meh??
yes, u go and search and count
and while u are at it, u can pick one of them and continue discussion there.
Do not buy any laptops that claim to be Blu-ray ready. Blu-ray has undergone great changes that all old Blu-ray drives will not be able to read new Blu-ray discs. Currently, only Sony has the answer to that, but it's not cheap.
ic.. so don't buy any blue ray disc ready? stick to the dvd first? 2.7k for hp blu-ray.. was kinda.. =.=
so wad brand should i get apart from dell
For now, you can stick to DVD. It's not like DVDs storage area is little.
For a budget of 2K, a lot of brands are available, except most of the Japan branded laptops, like Sony, Fujitsu, Toshiba, etc.
Specs for a 2K laptop wouldn't be bad... I bought a Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz laptop for around 2.2K more than half a year ago. Now the same specs would cost lesser, with the same price, you can buy a better one.
Brand is Compaq.
Unless you are gaming intensively, most laptops should work fine. Don't expect great graphics from integrated graphics cards, which most laptops offer. Asus gaming laptops aren't that cheap, but prices have dropped.
with 2k can get GEforce?
and btw, HP and compaq
they are the same company right?
Company is the same. Products are different. You will get to know why when you start shopping.
hp - compaq, which 1 cheaper

Yes.
HP pavilion Dv2711tx.
Cost $1799 @ harvey norman Jurong point.
Specs: Core 2 duo t5750 (2.0ghz, 2mb L2 catche)
3gb ram
Home premium
Geforce 8400 mgs (128mb dedicated)
Wireless network Draft N/G/B/A with bluetooth
Anyways warranty is inclusive in the price. unless yoyu would want to extend it
Originally posted by youyayu:hp - compaq, which 1 cheaper
Hp is more expensive cause you are paying for quality. and brand name
Compaq is cheaper cause iit looks uglier and it has the better specs than their HP counter parts @ the same price.
A HP @ 1799 can have 2.0 ghz processor but a compaq can have a 2.4 ghz processor.
Though do note that a HP laptop will normally have dedicated graphics but the Compaq with shared intel graphics
Both HP and compaq are from the same company
forget harvey normans. I personally found acer a good laptop. Me and my gf got acer a year ago, so far no problem... expect once i shorted the system coz i did something silly. Their repair center is very good. fixed it on the spot.
anyway, wait for the pc show coming in june. you'll save a few hundreds
oh okay, any way i checked out HN, they are giving away great deals.. but as of above..
HP- GEforce 8600Mn but, 2.0ghz
Compaq - no GEforce, but 2.4ghz
cost - the same
Yea i know acer is good.. but that person selling say.. if u are going for games + work.. then its not advisible to take acer.
i can't wait till june >< when i wait till then i will drown in the river of sliava
thanks 4 the advise thought..
so which 1? GE or 2.4ghz
I would say Apple but with gaming....guess the fruit is out.

The same?
What's the cost then?
I dunno. Personally It makes no difference. I guess going for a higher and "better" graphics if u are into games.
the 8600mgs is 256mb dedicated right? Thus it can run most games on med-high mode. No prob with that.
However, LAPTOPS are not for gaming!!
If you really want a gaming laptop, go for asus.
asus how much?
but the games i play is only like dota, football manager, fifa manager...
cost the same.. $1799

Asus Gaming laptop, G series (G1, G2) are above 2.5k.
Do note that they are all big, heavy, hot and power sucking behemoths with poor battery life.
dota, football manager, fifa manager
As far as i know, You do not need to get an Asus Gaming Series in order to play the above games.
Get it if you are only a hardcore gamer.
An average Asus will do the trick. (They have quite high end specs, and cost $1600++ and above)
The battery life of one is not as bad as people claim. I personally have tried and used one before. It managed to last for <2hrs 30mins looping two 45 minute videos. Compared with my HP running a turion 64x2 processor, the Asus is cooler, way cooler. I agree, most of them have big screens and is somewhat heavier
but to those 2 laptop i said.. which 1 should 1 buy?
the one with GE, or the one with 2.4ghz
GE.
weight not an issue?
Get the one with ATI/nvdia Geforce graphics card. Don't get Intel, they suck big time!
2.0 or 2.4 ghz doesn't really differs much, take a look at the L2 4MB cache stuff....
