Halo...
Anyone care to share What's the disadvantages of a dell computer..
From what I heard, you can only use a dell format disc to reformat your dell pc.
In addition, if you want to change the hardware, you can only replace it with dells spareparts.
Is it true??
Btw, anyone knows what it means when the screen reflects Alert! Previous Fan failed...
Thanks

Ans: There is no need to use the format disc to reformat the computer. When you switch on the pc, just press clt and f11. The recovery partition would do the process. (follow the instructions and your computer will be reformatted)

Ans: Not true. There is no such thing as a dell ram or dell hdd or dell gpu or processor. All these are outsourced to manufacters like kingston (ram), Nividia (graphics card), Intel/Amd (processor) Thus you can change your hardware to whatever you like. But first it must be compatible with your motherboard
Btw, anyone knows what it means when the screen reflects Alert! Previous Fan failed...
Alert! Previous fan failure. | System fan failed during the previous operating session. |
Ensure the fan cable is connected and that a fan is installed. Reconnect the fan cable or replace it |
Thanks
Hey thks for yr reply...
Btw, so it means I can simply reformat a com without a format disc. Or it applies to dell computers only? However, it's possible to use a normal format disc to format a dell's computer right.

Yes. You can reformat a com without a format disc.
No. it doesnt apply to dells. Every OEM (original equiptment manufacturer has this function) Pc/ laptop has this function. However it has it cons. and pros. Pros: dont need to use disc. Cons: if your partition file is corrupted then sayonara. ( cannot reformat)
use dell's format disc. It contains drivers for dell computers
icic... Thanks...
Hmm, to save thread space... I think I just ask other questions here ba...
1) Connection speed = 100.0 Mbps means what are..
2) How do we know whether the ram, graphic cards we are buying is compatible with our motherboard... Can I assume that if the ram fits in the slot, means it is compatible...

I don't think we are allowed to discuss the disadvantages of a certain brand of PC, but I am a happy Dell user PC for the past 1.5 years, and their service is superb. From telephone troubleshooting to on-site service. There is nothing special or unique about Dell compared to other major PC brands like Acer, HP-Compaq. They will provide you with the Windows OEM copy, which can only be installed on your computer (it is usually pre-installed). When I do a reformat, I will use that CD. As for changing hardware, my initial Dell PC spec was: Pentium D820, 2*256Mb RAM, integrated graphics, 160Gb WDC hard disk, and a DVD-ROM. I have since changed to: Core 2 Duo E4600, 3*1Gb RAM, 2*500gB + 160 Gb hard disk, LG DVD 18X writer,an Asus 8600GT graphics card, Creative X-Fi Xtrememusic+ I/O 5.25" drive and a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1300, together with other pheripherals like webcam, printer, etc. All parts are bought from Sim Lim, and are using the stock power supply with no issues so far. Dell encourage its users to upgrade their PCs, and warranty won't be void after checking with them. It will be void if the PSU is removed though.
it's ok and alright to discuss
Thanks for the link.. I guess it's not possible to assume afterall... My com gave a beep sound and did not start up when I tried inserting the ram,,, lol
