Hi people!
Am wondering can I connect a PC (server) to the internet and access it with other PC/laptops with internet connection to upload/download files into/outoff the PC (Server)?
What kind of software do I need?
Thanks.
Remote Desktop. Built into Win XP Pro and Vista Business.
If you just want to upload and download files, maybe can get the server version of Filezilla.
thks GIB.
tried reading up on the web about. came across PCAnywhere software.
Anyone tried it before?
PCAnywhere should be similar to Remote Desktop.
If you want free one, you can try TightVNC, RealVNC (Free version) or Ultimate VNC. You will need to install server and client softwares for it to work.
In my opinion, Remote Desktop is much better. No need to install anything.

Hey Thanks! I had tried and am successful connecting to my (host) laptop using Remote Desktop with another laptop (Client). However, it seems like I can only access my folders/software in my host laptop with the client. How can I for example transfer files from the client to the host?
Thanks
You can gain access to your disk drives on the local computer during a Remote Desktop session. You can redirect the local disk drives, including the hard disk drives, CD-ROM disk drives, floppy disk drives, and mapped network disk drives so that you can transfer files between the local host and the remote computer in the same way that you copy files from a network share. You can use Microsoft Windows Explorer to view the disk drives and files for each redirected disk drive. Alternatively, you can view the files for each redirected disk drive in My Computer. The drives are displayed as "drive_letter on terminal_server_client_name" in both Windows Explorer and My Computer.
To view the disk drives and files for the redirected disk drive:
1. | Click Start, point to All Programs (or Programs), point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection. |
2. | Click Options, and then click the Local Resources tab. |
3. | Click Disk Drives, and then click Connect. |
Another easier way is minimise the Remote Desktop screen so that you are looking at your own desktop, then open whichever folder (local) u want and select the files (local) you want, Copy, then maximise the Remote Desktop again, go to the target folder (remote) and Paste.
The first method is more useful if you just wanna browse your local files/folders remotely.
But you have to select "Disk Drives" in "Local Resources" regardless of which method you prefer.
