It's just a speculation for now.
Anyway, I'm not all for it. I mean, make it modular if you want to. This could speed up Windows 7 and gives us, the consumers to choose what we want for our OS.
But not at the expense of us. You know how much one darn license cost. I'm not going to pay to install for the features that I want. Another thing, neither are you going to refund us for the features that we don't want.
It's going to be a lose-lose situation, unless we could get the Windows 7 CD custom-made, like some Linux distros.
What do you guys think?
Might be possible and mutually beneficial.
Let us choose what we want in our Windows, while MS stays out of anti-trust lawsuits. Its not a monopoly if the user CHOOSES to install all the additional programes and modules.
Yup, I agree with you. But as per speculation, the modular approach may mean the user pay for a basic license, then pay more to get more features installed.
I, for one, don't really fancy this if MS finally settles for this method.
One main concern - reinstallation issues. I don't suppose many know how to image their drives. Reinstalling the OS would mean reinstalling/removing extra features and paying again. How is MS going to track?
There could be other ways to balance it though... but since MS is exploring them at this stage, we could still be optimistic about it.
Wonder if we could get to hear good news.
I think its likely that MS will release most of the features free.
Allow me to speculate a lil. The "Home", "Pro", "Business" and "Ultimate" tiers would probably still remain as a package, each license entitling users to install various modules. So if you're a "Home" user that wishes to access certain "Pro" modules, you'd probably have to buy the entire "Pro" license (after discount since you already own the "Home." )
Makes it more affordable for people to "Upgrade" their windows. A major selling point I'd work on.
Of course, then theres the eternal bane or blessing called "Piracy," depending on which side of the fence you're on. =)
Naturally, Bill Gates I am not, so these are just speculation.
Ah, that's a nice way to handle. Well, we shall see in a few years' time. I'm sure looking towards this new OS. I hope it doesn't disappoint like Vista. Change is nice, but drastic changes aren't needed.
