A qn ppl,
if lets say yr antivirus deleted a virus and running a rescan and found no virus, is yr comp safe and clean? I kana this Backdoor.IRC.Bot few mths ago and was wondering if its safe
If you want to do something secretly, would you go in by front door or back door? Please answer this question logically, not from your point of view.
If you answer back door, good for you. This answer should be clear enough to tell you if it's safe or not.

erm back door?
but wad has it got to do with whether the virus still poses any threat even after deletion by anti virus program?

Since you use a back door... obviously you will not want someone to know that a back door exists.
But while trying to hide the back door, you still want an easy way back.
Applying the same logic to computers, a backdoor is dangerous. The main file can be removed, rendering the virus useless, but do you know if the attacker has changed to your computer so he can enter again in case the file gets deleted?
The answer is no unless you monitor your computer.
in that case how do u and wad do u mean by monitor? By doing scans regularly to see if the virus resurface? I kana that virus twice over a span of 2 mths and both were deleted successfully.
haiz, i really dont get it, i am not serving any illegal, chatting, pornographic sites or wadever sites that are considered risky just the normal forums, blogs, search engines etc etc and i still kana the virus.
Monitoring can be done with softwares. Some firewalls offer it... but they get very irritating, especially if you are installing software. Every little thing, you get prompted.
There are others as well... like Winpatrol, System Safety Monitor, ProcessGuard, etc.
Viruses strike computers in a lot of ways, but most notably would be through loopholes of a program or the operating system itself. Windows patches itself automatically on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. If there are critical bugs, there will be more patches.
Softwares wise... it's up to developers to patch it. Some patches more often, like browsers. Others not so.
Nowadays... viruses no longer just spread through loopholes found. Embedded files like Java applets, Flash files can be a cause. More and more are also using JavaScripts to spread viruses... for Internet Explorer, not only JavaScripts can be used, ActiveX are used as well. It's the prompt you receive from IE if you want to install something...
Advertisements in lots of websites are also being used to spread...
Just because you practise safe surfing habits doesn't mean you won't be hit. One JavaScript alone is enough to wreck havoc...
the only way to prevent it is to smash up your usb ports, cd drives, bluetooth, internet card and card adaptor..
Dnt be so sure, thoit seems like the main threat is gone.
But if you really want to,then format and reinstall everything.
