What is sound card for anyway?
Why plp go for expensive sound cards?
Their ears are much more sensitive than ours --> just joking
I guess is how the sound is digitally processed. A DSP filter in orders of magnitude could be quite expensive... But exactly how it functions in a sound card, I'm not very sure
A simple integrated sound card is enough.

I think its more practical to go for good speakers rather than sound cards.
Unless you know how to appreciate sounds. If I build a computer, it will come with no speakers + sound card. It's not needed anyway. Unless you can't see.
well....sound card would produce better quality sound
on the other hand, if you dont really do serious gaming in 7.1 surround, there isnt much need
unless u are a serious gamer
Just get a 5.1-ready sound card will do...most middle and entry level cards have that capabilities.Look for a card that says "High Definition Audio".
You are better off using the money to buy a 2.1 speaker set like Altec Lansing ATP3 which is already better than the free OEM's.
most intergrated are 7.1 surround, the speakers i used are producing quite a good sound, the brand is jumboy......
im on a soundcard, old card but nice sound, it's a sound blaster live from year 2002 i tink

Sound card as the name suggested... it is a card to proccess digital signal into real sound.
People go for most ex sound card in expectation that the sound produced would be more nicer...

5.1 is gd enough.
7.1 nt neccessary, unless if you are a gamer. even 5.1 is gd enough for music
unless you r a hardcore gamer or is into music editting/recording/producing.. a motherboard 5.1 sound will suffice for you..
If you are just a casual user, you do not need a sound card. Or at the very basic, just buy an entry level sound-card for <$50. Creative has quality low-end sound cards.
Ob the other hand, if you are willing to fork out $170 for a sound-card (Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtrememusic), spend an additional %55 to modify its capacitors and op-amps, spend an additional $250 on a set of relatively high end speakers (Creative Gigaworks T40 for me), there is absolutely no comparison between on-board music and sound card.
My friend who is expert in computer audio told me one should only spend at most 30% of the price of speakers to get the audio accessories (e.g. sound-card). Hence, only do consider sound card if you have very good multi-media speakers (not those cheap <$100 type of speakers). We are talking about high end multi-media speakers such as Aego M, Klipsch, Creative Gigaworks, etc.
Any higher end than that, you need bookshelf speakers + amplifier.
hmmm... i use headphone...
Headphones are also subjective.
Anyway, you also need a very good headphones to really bring the full effect of a sound card. Otherwise, the sound card is just a waste of money.
in the past onboard sound used to be very sucky compared to real sound card
but nowadays onboard sound are good enough for most people like listening to mp3 , etc...
When u play a game, its important to know where a bullet come from and other sounds for situational awareness.Audiophiles need music quality. If u dnt need, dnt get one.

hmm.....im planning to use cerwin vega cls215 to go with my new comp(soon to buy), already have power amp
when i play soldier front, i would normally use my ear phones with it.
hahas, so that i can hear the foot steps of the enermies.
actually, even if you have a good sound card, but u have a lousy speaker, having a good sound card would be useless.
