my former acer is in it's 4th year, and it is still running under the usage of my sis, however, the quality of acer is questionable. Shortly after getting it for 6months, nearly all it's keys are balding. The battery died. and i have to change the adaptor.
my former sony, is in it's 2nd year running now. So far, there are no major issues, except, the touchpad went dead after about 8months or so. I had it replaced of course, and i was delighted to know that sony changed my screen for me too. However, i am starting to doubt this laptop is going to last long, for the the top part of the screen has greyish patches, signs of dying pixles.
I am so far quite happy with the performance of my Hp. No major issues, except OS issues which vista users will experience. But i would caution anyone who wishes to brush their keyboards... (shalln say much =p)
fijitsu, toshiba, asus
fujitsu nvr try b4..but ok! also
mine toshiba...yah gt heat problem..even the case near the fan part is burned( bit black and brown color, no joke)
asus ok! but bit ex
eversince i changed from my fujitsu S6410 to sony vaio FZ27G, i never regretted. The screen on the sony is simply brilliant. I guess the prices u pay is for the screen. Other than that, i find these two are great brands that dont break down so easily.

My acer keyboard is worse...only after 3 months of medium usage, the "A" key word is totally gone while the "S" and "N" are halfway through

The result of Mass production with low QC standards

my acer is also going into its 4th years of operations with my fujitsu running hot after 8 long years. 8)
this implies that the older models of laptops are of better quality and thus they can last longer

I believe the older ones actually last quite long. Square, the previous mod here, uses Acer too. And it lasts longer than mine. Should be in its 4th year if it's still working.
This IT Show no Asus lappies...
Macbook Pro.
sigh, means no "asus eee" ?
Boh...

IBM-Lenovo. Good quality, powerful, light and hardy. But makes the user look so uncool
God, please don't use apple unless you are really into working on your laptop, it's ex but high end. So don't waste money. I've seen idiots using a macbook at the void decks.
If you're into production like video editting or graphic design, I'd say go for apple. Or even for work. If you're buying to use for leisure, get a PC..

Dont be racist...
Fujitsu
i go DMD. what to buy?
Got to agree with the sentence about acer - If it last for more than 3 months, most likely it won't show any problem for the rest of the time till your warranty end. If not, you gonna have fun visiting the service center.
A real life situation - My friend bought a desktop from acer last year, around december and have been visiting the service center alot. Believe it or not, the motherboard overheated just 3 weeks after changing a new one.
CreativeMaggot is right, get apple only if you are into video-editing or graphic design.
