reccomend a ext hdd

  im thinking of getg one tts mayb has about 250gb. can anyone recommend me which brand to get or which not to get? best also if can let me know price range n location of shop. thanks in advanced

  what kind of ext hdd would you like to get?

  1. 3.5 inch hdds 
  2. 2.5 inch hdds

   

  3.5 inch hdds are generally cheaper, than their 2.5inch siblings, however, they are have heavier and bulkier casings and they normally require a power source for them to run.

  2.5 inch hdds are generally more expensive. however they are portable and they require only a usb port to power it up.

  There are plenty of brands of hdds -- segate, maxtor, toshiba ect.

   You can either get these hdds and then get a casing to go with it or get pre-formatted ones from various manufacturer. The price difference is not really that much.

  The best place i recc to see lots of varieties of different kinds of hdd would be challenger.

  Remember hor, once you buy a 2.5 inch hdd, try to take extra caution. dont anyhow knock here knock there, drop here drop there.

  My teacher's hdd casing cracked when she accidentally swipped her hdd off the teachers table

  juz go to sim lim square and grab brochures lor. if you want good service, then go bell, fuwell, bizgram and the more established ones lor. Just be prepared to pay a little bit more.
  
  and dun need those watever One-Touch solutions one. Just get a DIY one.

  My advice will be to stay away from Maxtor. Maxtor used to produce great hard disks in the past (in fact all my old PCs use Maxtor HDDs) and they last long. The newer ones I built no longer use Maxtor but Seagate or Hitachi.

  Nowadays, it's quite bad. Even for external HDDs, it used to be fine. Until late last year, I started hearing more complains from users. A few of them who bought Maxtor HDD earlier last year (either at IT Shows or computer shops) are experiencing problems with them by the end of the year.

  Hey guys, it seems that Maxtor is not recommended here. I'm thinking of getting one of 120GB.

  So, what brand would be good? I was thinking of Western Digital due to its affordability, but performance wise, how is it?

  Also, I really am new to this external HDD issue. I would like to ask, if i do have one, I would be able to install my computer games there right? Is there like any requirements for me to be able to install and play games or something like that? My current 80GB internal hard drive is almost full...

  Your help is really appreciated, thanks...

  WD is quite value for money. Reviews are quite alright. If $ is not a prob. segate would be better.

  Yes. You can install games/ put files/ ect. Not anyknown requirements, except I would recc having a folder for each game you install. If not their dll files will be all over the place.

  It would function like a thumbdrive (plug and play) just that it has a larger capacity.

  If you will not bring your external hdd around, i would recc getting the 3.5 inch external hdd. The difference between a 3.5 and a 2.5 inch hdd is that the 2.5 is smaller than the 3.5 and it requires only a usb port. The 3.5 requires a power source. However the 3.5 inch hdd is cheaper. A 80gb 2.5'' hdd would be more expensive than a 80gb 3.5'' hdd at same storage capacity.

  anyway i bot the seagate 250gb for around $180 at the IT fair. this is a 2.5

  i saw a WD 500gb 3.5 at $170.

  It looks stylishly nicer than the Western Digital. Performance wise how is it?

  i bought this one. nvr use the pasword programme thingy. scared i mite lose the dam thing.

  storage for music.movies n pics only.

  design is small n sleek but wld prefer it in more funky colors.

  wait...do u mean u use it for music movies and pics, or do you mean that it can only be used for music movies and pics, but not for games and stuff?
