I was watching an flv file, and suddenly my computer froze.. It sorts of look like it shut down, but the power was still on, but the monitor is black.
after i rebooted, everytime i open firefox. this problem occurs. My computer just freezes up and "shuts down" and i have to force it to reboot again.
any suggestions to what i should do? thanks!!
Not sure what's happening. Firefox shouldn't cause a PC to crash that badly.
Are you using a HP or Compaq computer?
Next... try this.
Click on Start > All Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)
This will start Firefox in Safe Mode. Does the same thing still occur?
will overheating cause this problem?
cuz i just rebooted, and it crashes a few seconds after booting up.
so i just offed my pc. using laptop now.
what should i do?
no i built my own computer. so no brand.
Overheat either hangs a machine, shuts it down or restart. It depends on the hardware maker.
I doubt that's the cause. I think it may be due to corruption, because you shut it down forcefully when Firefox crashed the machine. As the hard disk is still writing data and power is suddenly lost, it can cause corruption.
The corruption can be fixed by booting up to Last Known Good Configuration. Keep on pressing F8 when booting up, before the Windows logo shows. Then select Last Known Good Configuration and press Enter. It takes a while for Windows to repair itself if you are using NTFS. If using FAT32, might be gone case liao.

hmm. because i have this habit of never offing my computer for months to years.. and i left my tower on the floor and its not really airy. i think it might have overheated.
win2000 got this last known good configuration function?
Yup, have. But I think need a few more steps. Need to press L or some other letters to confirm to boot up to that mode. Steps is the same as XP.
Just read the screen carefully.
ok i tried that already. still the same.
ok, actually what i meant was.. the power is still on. i can open my cd case, etc. but nothing is shown on the monitor. its like it shut down, but yet its not.
Hmm... too bad no system restore in Win 2K.
Can you try chkdsk.
hmm.. my friend suggested could be graphic card problem. but i can boot in safemode without any problem.
so anyway. my plan is this, back up using safemode, then reformat to xp, if the problem persist, time to build a new comp, since my computer is like 7 years old already.
Graphics card problem with FF only is unbelievable... but well... god knows.

it could be coincident that i was ripping a flv file in FF when it happened. i don't have a graphic card on hand to test the theory though.
