ya indeed
budget?
I dont find it worthwhile to upgrade your system. Judging from it's age and processor.

Consider getting second-hand computer hardware instead. Surf around HWZ and VRZ's marketplace and you'll probably able to fish out many good deals.

You can't suka suka upgrade a system. Motherboards and processors won't allow that. If you upgrade motherboard, processor also has to change and vice versa.
If you are lacking money, might want to buy second hand. Most of the shops in the top level of Sim Lim sells second hand parts.
Thx for the info, but you got any recommendation on which store to patronize?

Based on 23/2/08,
CPUs:
Intel:
celeron 1.6 ghz, $60
celeron 1.8ghz, $77
Dual core E1200 1.6 Ghz 512K 800 FSB, $88
Dual core E2160 1.8 Ghz 1mb 800 FSB, $107
Dual core E2200 2.2 Ghz 1mb 800 FSB, $140
Core 2 duo E 4500 2.2 Ghz 2mb 800 FSB, $184
Core 2 duo E 4600 2.4 Ghz 2mb 800 FSB, $230
Core 2 duo E 6750 2.66 Ghz 4mb 1333 FSB, $296
Core 2 duo E 8500 3.16 Ghz 6mb 1333 FSB, $479
Quad core Q 6600 2.4Ghz 8mb 1066 FSB, $401
I heard from the person that if you want quadcore, ur motherboard must have flash BIOS or sth, didnt remember clearly.
All price are alone, means just the processor
Graphic cards, must see if ur motherboard supports AGP 8x, or the newer PCI-express graphic cards, PCI express graphic cards need power, so ur power supply must be able to have the output wire to plug in the PCI express graphic cards
Ram, must see what Ram ur motherboard supports, DDR or DDR2?
Is your computer used for gaming? normal use? work? got open graphic intensive programs like photoshop, dreamweaver, sony vegas, and they all eat RAM, if you make videos, get a faster processor, so things can be embedded faster
you'll need to set aside some money for ram upgrades & vga card (PCI Express if u dun have one)+ psu (450w)..as well, given that you are buying a new processor = new motherboard = new rams or more rams needed..
depending on your current computer specs, u might be able to save up money by using
the old tower and hardisks, dvd rom.. i think u can just squeeze S$600 and get a workable system..(non hardcore gamers system)

i went to quote a price for a new gaming rig, is about 2700+
quadcore, x38 dq6 mobo,xfx 8800GTS graphic card, 500gb hdd, 1k watts PSU, 4gb KIT ram, dvd rom+writer, big cpu fan(cos i overclocking), antec 900 casing, 19" monitor,
Hi,sorry for hijacking this thread but,is LGA 775 processors drop in compatible in mobo?

I don't really get your question. Some motherboards are compatible with a certain processor while the others don't. You may want to refer to the manufacturers' website for the compatiblity list for each of their motherboards.

Whats the difference between those two???
The 0.2ghz speed difference.

But would be a slight difference or a huge one?
Originally posted by NoobBOY:Whats the difference between those two???
no big differece....
0.2 ghz is not significant, and barely noticeble
There should not be much difference in the speed though, although you can say thaE4500 is an older processor that's out before theE4600.
The price difference is about $50, which i dont think, should be spent, if you have a $500 - $600 upgrading budget.
for $50 you could get a 1gb ram for your desktop.
but before you get the processor, you must first see if your motherboard is suitable to use this processor anot, if not you buy for what?

More than that actually, if you're overclocking. But I would agree with you that the difference is not worth the extra $50 no matter what.
