Seagate? It's reliable. Well, at least for me after abuse. But you won't like the price.
Or Hitachi if you are looking for performance rather than reliability, and it isn't really far away from Seagate in terms of the latter. Plus, its pricing is relatively moderate too.

2.5 more portable, smaller, powered by USB
3.5 bigger, heavy, need a power adapter..

hmm thats depends on your needs.
cheapest to most exp method.............
- if there is no much backing documents, just burn a dvd or cd can liao.
- if u just need it once, u may consider to invest on a hdd enclosure, fix your old hdd inside, and transfer your data out. to your new lappy.
- 3.5'' portable if you carry much around. cos it needs a external power source to power up. in terms of price/gb it would be the cheapest.
- 2.5'' if u need more mobility. it doesnt need an external power source to power up. just need power from usb. in terms of price/gb, it would be more expensive than 3.5'' one
-1'' same description as 2.5'' one but than price/gb is much more than 2.5''
-flash drive(thumb drive) around same price/gb as 1'' but in terms of durability, it high. thumbdrive drop on floor no problem. but as for hdd, as long as its a rotating hard disk, once drop, gone.

with the porn or without?
I advise you buy during IT Show 08,as (usually) HDD manufactorers will slash their prices slightly.
Also,a portable HDD will cost slightly more compared to a exterior HDD(need seperate power).
From what i know,Maxtor 160GB non-portable is $99 while for portable u can only get 80GB Maxtor Portable with that amount.
I see I see...
I think i will go for 2.5" then...that means if drop, the harddisk uplorry???
