that gaming rig of mine, i may not overclock it, but if i clock my Q6600 to 3ghz, do i need any special cooling stuffs? If i get the x38 motherboard, can i overclock it w/o any prob?Originally posted by LatecomerX:Well, unless you're thinking of using the same rig for more than 5 years, overclocking would give you that "fast" while being able to last through for the next 2 - 3 years which by then you would have gotten yourself another comp.
4 Ghz...you will need to spend quite some time and a good cooling system for it to run stable at that speed. But a 3.0 OC from 2.4 should be as easy as cake especially if you're using a good motherboard.
ya la, but, u need so much mehh????Originally posted by MyPillowTalks:the person say the 1k watt PSU gt technology like if u no use till 1000, it will not give 1k, like onli when u require 600, it will produce 600
i dunno about the watts lea....i dunno 500 can push or not.......later it too 'chi li' veri hotOriginally posted by hiphop2009:ya la, but, u need so much mehh????
i personally think 500w is gd enough.
haha. personal opinion.
u can use the money to get other things.
To 3 Ghz, you just need to make sure your casing is well-ventilated, or get quality fans for the casing and the CPU to be safe. Run a stress test like Orthos for an hour or so and check that the temperature doesn't exceed 65 degree Celsius, and there you go - a stable OC.Originally posted by MyPillowTalks:that gaming rig of mine, i may not overclock it, but if i clock my Q6600 to 3ghz, do i need any special cooling stuffs? i dun need too fast, somehow i feel contented when i have a 3ghz processor, compared to 2.4 Heard that the Q6600 is extremly overclockerable
By the way, don't just look at the numbers. The manufacturer of the PSU is a much more important factor. Take note of the power effiency and ratings as well. (Although it's amazing that an iCute 480W is able to support a 3.2 Ghz OC-ed E6550 + 8800GT on my friend's box.)Originally posted by MyPillowTalks:i dunno about the watts lea....i dunno 500 can push or not.......later it too 'chi li' veri hot
QX6850 going for $1699 leh. Mai siao siao hor. Most, if not all, buyers of the Extreme series CPUs are overclockers. You buy one for what.Originally posted by MyPillowTalks:this kind of spec still not beri high end to me lea, i wan get a exterme quad core processor
go widescreen for wad???
The guy told me that the casing he would sell to me is the antec 900 i tink, i may even get a watercool, but first of all i need to see how to overclock the thing to 3ghz, i onli noe it is in BIOS, and need to set the jumper thingy, but i dunno how to do it properly....Originally posted by LatecomerX:To 3 Ghz, you just need to make sure your casing is well-ventilated, or get quality fans for the casing to be safe. Gigabyte's X38 is quite a good choice, though you can get a similar OC performance with the $100-cheaper P35 version. Iirc, the only difference between these two is that the PCIe slots are of version 2.0 (something like USB 2.0 vs USB 1.1) in the X38's, but some suggest that current graphic cards may not even be able to saturate the memory bandwidth of the older PCIe slots. I can't remember much, but I found those articles through a Google search like "P35 vs X38". You may want to try that as well.
hmmm......i will check out the Manufacture of the PSU, but the box seems quite nice lea....Originally posted by LatecomerX:By the way, don't just look at the numbers. then i tink i stick with 6600, cos i dun wan to overclock actually, so get a already high runnning oneOriginally posted by LatecomerX:QX6850 going for $1699 leh. Mai siao siao hor. Most, if not all, buyers of the Extreme series CPUs are overclockers. You buy one for what.
ok la. i think is reasonableOriginally posted by MyPillowTalks:then i tink i stick with 6600, cos i dun wan to overclock actually, so get a already high runnning one
btw, u think the price that i posted are reasonable? is it too expensive?
The price for each part is reasonable. The issue is whether that uncle is shoving down components that are more than necessary for your needs. If you had told him you're not OC-ing before he recommended you that 1000W PSU, you can go back and flash him your middle finger before walking into another store.Originally posted by MyPillowTalks:U all think that the price for the various parts are reasonable? or i kena chopped? or u think can still go lower?
Need to set jumper one to OC one meh? I only know when your OC screw up, you just need to do something to the CMOS jumper to reset the BIOS. I just did my first OC recently and all I had to do is to change the necessary settings in the BIOS and do a stress test to ensure stability under full load.Originally posted by MyPillowTalks:The guy told me that the casing he would sell to me is the antec 900 i tink, i may even get a watercool, but first of all i need to see how to overclock the thing to 3ghz, i onli noe it is in BIOS, and need to set the jumper thingy, but i dunno how to do it properly....

think amd is not dual core.or hv to ask pillow..is old tech used for bout few years liao.we r poorOriginally posted by kenn3th:Your amd is dual core right
amd cannot compare to intel la. Performance wise.
.
Firstly he also thought i am a overclocker.....cos i told him about 2.4 too slow, budden he say for my combination, 1000W is minimum, also maybe it is becos of the casing i wanna get, i say if put watercool plus lightsOriginally posted by LatecomerX:The price for each part is reasonable. dunno lea, i no overclock something before, u noe how to overclock? i'm wondering is it safe to overclock the 2.4 to 3.ghzOriginally posted by LatecomerX:Need to set jumper one to OC one meh? 8800 can handle flight simulator and ship simulator with no prob. dont worry.
Yar, the casing is ex, but it is the design nice lea. antec 900.......maybe should look for another when i really want to buyOriginally posted by kenn3th:$190 for a casing is quite ex.
You can cut down on that.
And do you need a 19" LCD? 19 inch lcd is what brand and how many fps and response time?
1000w PSU too much alr. and too ex $390.
2gb is sufficient for Xp 32bit. I suggest you go 2gb then wait for price to drop further before adding another 2.
Os hor, singpost selling windows vista business for $145. Or you can get from SLS OEM editions lor. $100++
Actually it's up to you. xp for gaming and video, image editing. Or if you want vista, go ONLY for homebasic. Performance wise, xp pro and basic are about the same.
Or you could go for OEM xp Media center edition. Then buy Tv in and out ports to connect to your White box Sweet.
the $482 one is gigabyte GA-X38 DQ6 Intel X38 RAID/SATAOriginally posted by bo liao:*$482 MB?or wan use the LatecomerX tat time recommand the cheaper MB? tis MB got many time better & tahanable?

Bye bye.
cos monitor CRT more can tahan hot mah.....my friend burn his LCD liao.Originally posted by orionlight:Open so many thing at one shot and you are willing to spend so much on a 1k PSU which would obviously be overkill unless you running Quad-SLi(which is not possible in today's erm) but not willing to upgrade your monitor. really dun know what to say
The Antec 900 casing is a dust magnet by the way, you will need to clean like crazy
Where you hear that from?I thought is the opposite?LCD monitor can burn one meh?Originally posted by MyPillowTalks:cos monitor CRT more can tahan hot mah.....my friend burn his LCD liao.
likely to be the other way round.Originally posted by MyPillowTalks:cos monitor CRT more can tahan hot mah.....my friend burn his LCD liao.
