my laptop cannot shud down

  Everytime when i want to shut down my laptop, it will hang at the 'window is shutting down' screen for about 20 minutes then it restart...
  
  cannot anyone help me solve the problem?
  btw i am using window vista

  Just unplug the power cable & take out the battery.

  What have you installed or uninstalled?
  
  Updated Vista?
  
  And ensure that you selected the right option when shutting down. Please select Shut Down and not the Restart option if you are using the Classic Start Menu.

  i don't think i got install anything new. it started before my latest update. last time this was not so common, it only hangs at the shutting down part like 20% of the time, but now it is like 80% of the time i shut down, it happens. and yes i am sure i selected the shut down options.

  Uninstall all the Vista updates, restart your computer.
  
  Then reinstall all of them one by one till you get a problem.
  
  To uninstall updates
  
  1. Start > Control Panel or Start > Settings > Control Panel (Classic Start Menu)
  
  2. Double click on Programs and Features
  
  3. On the left, click View Installed Updates
  
  4. Select the update and click on Uninstall. Make sure that you don't uninstall any Office Updates if you have installed Microsoft Office. Only uninstall the Office Updates if you still have the same problem after uninstalling the Windows Updates.

  which one is vista update? i got adobe reader, capicom, microsoft office enterprise 2007, microsoft visual studio 2005 professional edition and microsoft windows.
  
  how do i install back the update after i had uninstall them?
  
  there are more then 50 updates there. i'll have to install them one by one then restart to check if i gt the problem?

  Just uninstall Windows Updates. Leave the rest of the updates alone. If you still got problems after uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Updates, then try removing the rest.

  will it harm the computer if i nv close other programmes b4 shutting down? because i the past, i use to shut down without closing other programmes.

  yesterday i also chooose update window and shut down button, b ut after install update while shutting down , it hangs there. i am using asus laptop.
  
  U are saying uninstall window updates then can worked le.
  
  ok let say it is the window updates tat give me problem of not shutting down pc , in another words also means tat i cannot update window updates in the future le loh, why vista so lousy de ah??? pls reply me asap thks.
