I couldn't see any reason for anyone to change a private IP address... it's the public IP address that some are concerned about.

For static internal IPs, the average home user should leave the DNS blank. Gateway would be the IP address of your router. If you have subnetting enabled, make sure all your computers are in the _SAME_ subnet or you'll not be getting any connectivity between them.
