How to reformat external drive?

  Need help to reformat external drive so that i can back up my laptop's data and then reformat my laptop ( which i also don't know how). T_T

  If the external hard disk is new... there's no need to format... it should already be formatted for use.
  
  As for reinstalling your OS...

  And here to set your CD/DVD drive as the first boot device so you can reinstall Windows...

  i've managed to reformat my external drive but i'm clueless to how to properly reformat my laptop as the OS and all are inside the laptop. -,-!!

  Insert ur OS CD in, winxp or vista, select a fresh installation of windows. They will ask u to reformat and partition.
